So, how much wet food should a good sized adult cat eat?

The mighty Flynn seems to be over his 2 weeks of constipation but the vet has suggested wet food (it previously gave him diahorrea) but I have no idea how many pouches he should have a day - can any one advise as so far he has had 1.5 pouches, some dreamers & a whole tray!!!

Is he a piggy or do I believe him that he is still hungry?

katymac · 01/05/2017 21:42

Well his poop is a lot wetter than normal but withe the lactulose plus 3 other laxatives, it probably would be!!! Wink

I'm glad he is on the mend katy. He is a gorgeous boy Smile.

MrsLettuce · 01/05/2017 21:46

(Flynn really must be impressively huge! Old boy was bang on average size wise and 3.6kg. Was an active, muscular outdoorsy type too.)

Fortheloveofscience · 01/05/2017 21:47

My 4kg cat who only eats wet food gets 2.5 pouches a day. Sometimes 3/3.5 if he either lies to OH when I've already fed him, is being particularly persuasive that he's hungry or just steals the extra 1/2 sachet Blush.

MrsLettuce · 01/05/2017 21:47

X post. Yes. That's probably no bad thing though.

katymac · 01/05/2017 21:51

Well I think he is; & he was a rescue too! He used to stud but they retired him early, he was adopted & they neutered him but he wouldn't live with other cats so revoked him again

Within 15mins of arriving here after a 2hr journey this was him with dh

Bogbastard who is a ginormous Siberian - 5.5kg or thereabouts - gets four pouches a day, eating wet food only. When he was having biscuits as well he had two pouches daily.

HemanOrSheRa · 01/05/2017 22:00

Aw. That is a very contented pussy cat Smile.

Frankie and Pip share an 800g tin of food between them. They probably get through one every 1 1/2 to 2 days. And Frankie will have the odd small bowl of dry food to snack on as he is a greedy boy.

Weedsnseeds1 · 01/05/2017 22:22

Look at those ears! He's like a gremlin Smile
My boy is somewhat larger than Flynn or Bogbastard. He's just a freak of nature though, with a covering of floof that makes him look even bigger.
Flynn looks slinky and elegant to my eyes!

Weedsnseeds1 · 01/05/2017 22:24

He doesn't eat wet though, so can't do a comparison. 80g dry a day, with the odd Dreamie or cat salami once a week or so.

katymac · 01/05/2017 22:41

I think he has gained weight

He still doesn't look fat to me!

catlover1987 · 01/05/2017 23:37

The guidelines on the packs are way more than they need (probably so you'll buy more.) Ours has half a large pouch in morning and rest at tea time, then a bowl of dry food at bedtime. And she's still got wobbly bits!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/05/2017 23:44

Harry has three pouches a day, Natures Menu for breakfast and dinner and Hi Life for lunch. He used to have biscuits instead if the Hi Life but he can't have them any more unfortunately. He weighs about 5.5kg.

Flynn is gorgeous and I'm so glad he's on the mend.

katymac · 03/05/2017 12:53

He should have about 300g of wet food a day

so at least 3 & probably 4 pouches

& he is ill again!! & lost weight gain!!

Bugger

Does the vet have any idea why he's losing weight? Which wet foods are you feeding him at the moment? It maybe worth trying something different. Especially as he's losing weight, if he wants extra food I'd give it to him for now.

katymac · 03/05/2017 14:54

No she has no ideal there are lots of tests going on & today (revoltingly) she emptied his anal gland yuk!!

katymac · 03/05/2017 14:55

He ate loads on Monday & hardly anything on Tuesday

Hopefully the tests will give you some answers? Do you know how soon you'll get the results?

ememem84 · 03/05/2017 15:16

My rescue girl is 4.8kg and she gets half a felix pouch a day. Together with biscuits in the morning.

Vet said she's not overweight as such but she could be on the way.

I'm amazed that the guidelines on the felix box say 3-4 pouches a day. She'd love that but she'd just get bigger.

Tigerblue · 03/05/2017 15:24

ememem84, biscuits do contain a lot of calories, so if you stopped those she'd probably be eating the 3-4 pouches and wouldn't get bigger. If you weigh out a recommended portion of biscuits for the day, they don't actually look that much.

katymac · 07/05/2017 18:43

He seems much better now -but is still on loads of meds
