Do female cats make more sounds than males?

Just a quick question.

Do female cats have a greater variety of vocalisations than males? I work from home and the cats are often in the house so I have had the chance to observe them closely. The two males are vocal, but they do not seem to make the variety of sounds that the female makes. What is more the female seems to adapt her sounds to different contexts and people.

Has anyone else noticed this about cats?

When I was reading your post, I was thinking no, because my boy Dcat is as vocal as my 2 girl Dcats, but now I've thought about it, I think you could be right. My 2 girl Dcats definitely have a range of noises, whereas my boy Dcat just hollers and that's it.

my boys one never moews at all i think theres something wrong with his vocal chords (half siamese so unusual) the other boy yells for food but other than that dosent really talk much, but yes my girl cat has several different meows and chirrups, i think its because biologically female cats have a range of sounds to talk to thier kittens as the mom cats i foster do lots of sounds with thier kits, some comforting sounds, some calling them to feed, some warning them not to go somewhere , so yes i would say girl cats talk more with more range than boy cats
