Can anyone point me in the direction of a good 'idiot's guide' to kittens?

Congratulations on your new kitties!
Both the RSPCA and Blue Cross have advice about cats and kittens on their website and I think big pet stores like Pets At Home have leaflets.
You'll need food, food and water dishes, litter, litter tray and scoop, a travel cage, scratching post and a few toys.
Wouldn't bother with a bed as they will no doubt sleep on the sofa. Home Bargains sell a great scratching post for £5 and lots of the other essentials far cheaper than Pets At Home!
Let us know how it goes!

Yeah there are quite a few good guides on the internet about how to play with them, feed, brush them etc.

Top tip... step away from your amazon account or you'll be ordering new toys every day!

A couple of toys that have been winners with my kitten are:

Flat cardboard scratching boards (kitten seems to like the tearable texture) but yours might be vertical scratchers.

I got two of these because he was scratching my bed but so put one of these in my bedroom as well. He also scratched a door mat but that is totally fine cos the door mat is actually on top of carpet so happy he goes for the easily replaceable door mat!

Cat tree. Loads online to choose from.

Kong cat cork ball with feather tail

Da Bird this one took a while to come but the kitten does love the feathers (to death) and the pole is good and I like the elastic. I ordered more refils from another vendor.

I got a big mat to put under the litter tray which reduces tracking.

Thanks both, that was so helpful and kiroro I had your post open when we were shopping today!

So we did it! The boys are here and they have melted my heart already. A bit skittish for the first hour but one is now snoozing on the sofa and the other is snoozing on me! Percy top left and Merlin top right. Smile they're 14 weeks today.

Very cute. My 2 boys are nearly 5 months now. They are on a climbing tree thing I got from home bargains

Excuse the mess in the background Blush

I ended up getting a huge litter tray with raised sides from petplanet as it helps stop litter getting everywhere. Have also bought kitten food from bitiba and zooplus as supermarket stuff isn't that great

Ooh thanks pixie! Yours are gorgeous Smile We went with a super cheap small litter tray because their legs are still so short Grin figure we will look at something bigger and neater when they grow - yours looks like a fab option when they're bigger. (Though right now I'm so in love that I can't imagine resenting cleaning up spilled litter - I'm sure that will fade 😂)

In case anyone comes across this post in the future, the cats protection league leaflets were super helpful. I managed to outshine DP on a couple of points even thanks to their tips.

We had two like this one to start with but they were trying to use the same tray at the same time so we got the bigger one instead. They got in and out of it no bother even at 8/9 weeks old.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/04/2017 21:13

They are gorgeous.
