Behaviour after being missing for a couple of days

Dcat2 has spent the last 2 days and nights trapped inside an empty house further down the street. He'd wandered in when the builders were briefly there on Monday morning and they didn't realise he was there. Thankfully all my neighbours were looking out for him as he's made friends with virtually the whole street and we tracked down the builders this morning who came to let him out.

He was hungry, a bit dehydrated and absolutely filthy but otherwise physically ok. He was very pleased to see me but now he's running round the house yowling and seems quite distressed. I'm planning on keeping him inside today but wondered if anyone had any tips to help settle him again?

Aw. Bless him. Silly boy . Maybe it's the cat equivalent of 'OMG! I'm so happy to be home. I thought I'd never see you again!' I'd give him lots of treats, favourite food and just generally spoil him. See if he settles down.

Our old girl was locked in someone's woodshed for two nights and came home like this. I thought it was a bit of feeling trapped again so I let her out. She only stayed out for about 2 minutes before coming straight back in. It was like she just wanted to know she wasn't stuck.

I'd say he's just expressing his relief at being home with you. Have you checked him over? Are his paws ok? Does he have anything stuck in his fur? Anything in his mouth? That sort of thing. Might be worth a visit to vet if he carries on hollering. So glad you found him.

Well he yelled all day, but then curled up calmly with us all night and this morning he's back to his normal routine - out first thing for a quick patrol, back in for breakfast and a snooze

I'd love to think he's learned a lesson but I doubt it ...
