Can I train a cat to use a particular part of the garden to poo?

The cat seems to like to go in random parts of the garden in the grass, and doesn't bury her poo. Sometimes it is wet (occasional tummy issues) and so it's difficult to clear up. We've got young children and it would be nice to let them out to play without having to scour the garden, and ruin the grass pouring hot water on the messy patches.

She does have a litter tray inside too but seems to prefer pooing outside.

Any suggestions how I can encourage her to go in one particular place?

Keep the soil nicely loosened in one bit of the garden then it's easier for her to dig there.

I have trained a cat before in stages

1. litter tray sitting on the patch of garden you want to use
2. litter scattered over patch of soil
3. bare soil, but as pp said, nice and loose for easy digging

Took a while, over a few weeks, but worked (at least, no complaints from any neighbours about cat in their gardens!)

My mum planted a flower bed. The dcat. Took an instant liking to it and the rest of the garden was poo free.

Can we swap?! Mine seems to have a "must be at home" rule
Even for a wee he comes back in to use his tray

I'll try the dirt corner but I'm a bit worried that if she doesn't try to bury her poo on the grass, will she be interested in a muddy area?

Does putting used litter there help at all?
