Is your cat as thick as mine? (with picture)

The door is open. However the cat can not work out how to pull it open with its paw! And the bin is in the way for it to try to squeeze through.
Is anyone else's cat lacking common sense?
He also doesn't understand he can eat human food!!!!! He never tries to. Unlike my other cat. Open the fridge and she is there.

My parents had a cat years ago that when he was happy would start to dribble too.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/03/2017 23:25

Mine can't jump, and we have put a box next to the bed, so that he can get on without falling off and ripping the sheet or duvet cover. He has two expressions, startled and bewildered.

The sofa has feather cushions, which as you can see, slowly collapse if he sits on the back of the sofa. He is very uncomfy here and is clinging on for dear life, rather than move to a seat cushion.

FannyFifer · 20/03/2017 23:30

My cat is also not very bright.
He can't even land on his feet when he falls off something.

ShotsFired · 20/03/2017 23:33

Mine can pull/hook open a door, but miaows pitifully if she is on the wrong side of a push one. Even when it's clearly ajar so she can see an opening too.

She has a cat flap so she knows the concept of pushing.

GriefLeavesItsMark · 20/03/2017 23:36

Grief cat has mastered the catflap. However, if it is raining, he will stop half way through the flap and slowly back out. This takes several minutes and repeated attempts as he frequently gets his head stuck.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/03/2017 23:51

Yep, thick as mince the pair of them!

Trustyourself2 · 21/03/2017 00:05

MrsSchadenfreude, yes, he does look rather bewildered and a little lacking in armchair etiquette.

I too have aids at the side of the bed for mine - an upturned wicker basket at a lower level and a stool at a higher level.

Haudyerwheesht · 21/03/2017 00:47

My cat also dribbles when she's happy - it adds a certain something to her overall glaikitness!

ElizaDontlittle · 21/03/2017 07:11

cozie Hmmm sometimes but often we just talk thru the gap in the doorway Grin

ATail I have one of these continuous noise monsters that talks the whole time she's awake, with chirrups and bird noises as well as miaowing!! As I live on my own it's most welcome -I don't know what I'd do with a silent cat! end up treading on it probably . You win Wink

DevelopingDetritus · 21/03/2017 07:48

NO no no OP, this cat is very clever, he knows exactly how to open the door but why should he make the effort when he can get you to do it for him. My cat does the same and because I'm a fool and he has big eyes, I do it for him. Under the paw alright.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2017 07:53

Snorg was also a silent meower. I just used to see her pink tongue. Then it progressed to quacking like a duck. Now I get a full on demanding meow. Especially when I'm asleep.

sm40 · 21/03/2017 07:59

I am a cat slave!
Eliza my dim cat also makes bird noises at birds!!
Dim cat also tries to make friends with the local cats. Sees them, tail goes bushy and up, goes in the garden (can work cat flat!) but then sits and talks to them.
I also have a clever cat. She was a stray that found us. Just after old cat was Pts. In fact she is so sassy feel she may have been in some homeland style plot to overthrow old cat. Also had another old cat at the time of clever cat moving in thinking about it she didn't last long either......
That's when we got dim kitten!
Clever cat and dim cat don't get on!

Mine has a plethora of beds and cushions to sleep on, all nice and comfy....Thick doesn't even begin to cover it!

Zara got lost in the hedge outside my old house, because she was facing the wrong way. We found her crying, turned her around, and she went back inside.

On the other hand, Bibi is almost terrifyingly intelligent. She outsmarts me on a regular basis. I know which one is more work!

MrsGotobed · 21/03/2017 08:41

Iheartdodo -the pulling rather than pushing the cat flap looks so clumsy and awkward doesn't it! You'd think they'd suss out the easy option.

DevelopingDetritus · 21/03/2017 08:50

Oh yes.

This came up on my Timehop this morning. PicklePig has at least 7 lovely fluffy beds around the house plus he sleeps on our nice comfy bed. But that day he decided that the place to sleep was on a pair of DHs swimming trunks which stank of chlorine. On top of the hard chest of drawers.
Look at his face! Like he's been forced to sit there!
Poor PicklePig!
He's incredibly thick. He can't open doors which are a bit open. All my other cats have worked out how to do the 'hooking a paw round and pulling it open' thing but PicklePig just head butts it closed and then looks confused.
He looks confused most of the time to be honest.
I had to have his claws clipped the other day because he's so incredibly lazy that his claws were getting very long. The vet warned me that he might fall off the fence because of his blunt claws. Sure enough, he face planted as soon as he tried. And every time he's tried to walk along the fence since then there's been an undignified scrabble of claws and then a thud as he lands in a heap. He can't seem to grasp that he should maybe try a different route until he's sharp clawed again.

Mine won't go thru gaps that are narrower than her whiskers

That's what whiskers are there for!

sm40 · 21/03/2017 10:50

Stupid cat also a fan of sleeping in uncomfortable places!!

We moved about 18 months ago to a house with a cat flap and Dave still hasn't learned how to use it despite sitting and watching next door's 2 cats coming in and out at least a thousand times. He spends a lot of time sitting looking out through it. I think he thinks it's a special cat window.

sm40 · 21/03/2017 10:53

Oh why would I sit on the nice chair when I can work wobble on this foot stall??????
