Is your cat as thick as mine? (with picture)

The door is open. However the cat can not work out how to pull it open with its paw! And the bin is in the way for it to try to squeeze through.
Is anyone else's cat lacking common sense?
He also doesn't understand he can eat human food!!!!! He never tries to. Unlike my other cat. Open the fridge and she is there.

We had a silent cat-so we called him Titus Groan.
Thick as a brick Billy doesn't believe there is food in his bowl unless he sees it being put in. I can wave a pouch over the bowl and he believes it though. Dick.

Mine took a month to learn to use a cat flap. Thick but pretty.

He's playing at door stops :o

We had one with a broken miaow. She only ever managed a little squeak.

DontFeedTheTrolls · 20/03/2017 22:13

We spent a couple of hours posting the thick ginger cat back and fourth through the cat flap. It still took him an age to get the hang of it. His sister, on the other hand, took one look at it and was very smug that she could use it. She has also sussed the neighbors cat flap and frequently helps herself to their sachets of 'Felix as good as it looks'

I also had one with a broken miaow. She did fire thick green globs of snot everywhere though 🤢🙀

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/03/2017 22:18

Our girl cat had the cat flap sussed in a couple of days - she's not particularly bothered about going outside. Boy cat is still not completely sure about using the cat flap and much prefers a human slave to open up the patio doors for him. He is the one who is desperate to explore the big wide world....HmmGrin

Mine can open the slightly open wardrobe door but not the equally open living room door.

My folks had a cat that would complain to be let in the kitchen window as he couldn't possibly go through the cat flap. He always managed it when there was no one in.

cozietoesie · 20/03/2017 22:27

Quite. Grin

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 20/03/2017 22:28

This thread had made me laugh so much, I love thick cats Grin

My thick boy cat will try different ways out if its raining Hmm and has also more than once tried to jump through a closed window....

ATailofTwoKitties · 20/03/2017 22:29

Ours regularly leaps on the fish tank and slides off the other side, because she has floofy paws.

I have expressly forbidden the teenagers to leave the lid up and grab an easy £250 from You've Been Framed, but if we're ever really short of a bob...

Haudyerwheesht · 20/03/2017 22:29

Our cat is almost 14 now and we've had her since she was a tiny kitten. We've also had young children for 10 of those years. this week she's worked out she can jump over a stairgate rather than cry pathetically at it.

Wayfarersonbaby · 20/03/2017 22:32

We had one cat who worked out in about 10 mins as a kitten how to pull open a door with her paw; and another one who is nearly sixteen and has never managed to work out how Grin Clearly there's quite a curve of cat intelligence Grin

Wayfarersonbaby · 20/03/2017 22:32

(The 16-year-old slightly dim cat is a boy, btw Grin)

LanaorAna1 · 20/03/2017 22:36

Smart enough to get you to open the door yet? :)

Quodlibet · 20/03/2017 22:40

Mine regularly falls backwards and headfirst off the sofa because she has relaxed a bit tooooo much.

Despite having once been a stray and presumingly having had to fed for herself, she also has no basic skills. She will only eat one type of (expensive) cat biscuit, and even if you leave a great big bag of them open she will sit by her bowl and wail until she is served.

booellesmum · 20/03/2017 22:46

We have 3 - 2 girls and a boy. One of the girls dislikes the boy so much she refuses to come downstairs if he is around. If she sees him on the stairs or downstairs she will hiss at him and run back upstairs.
However it is perfectly fine if he is upstairs to spend the day on the bed together lying inches apart!

boolifooli · 20/03/2017 22:58

Ours lays across the width of the stairs half way up, in the dark on a carpet that camouflages her. I can come huffing and puffing past with a basket of laundry and she'll just stay totally put.

hollinhurst84 · 20/03/2017 22:59

Stable cat is a sharp as a razor. She likes to taunt the dog by hanging her paw through the crate, and swipe humans food by knocking it on the floor and going "oh dear. Oops. All mine"
Ollie is just Ollie Smile

Wayfarersonbaby · 20/03/2017 23:00

Smart enough to get you to open the door yet? smile

Ours isn't! He will sit looking at a door slightly ajar and then looking pleadingly at us. After a while he gives up and just sits looking at the door contentedly just in case it moves on its own Grin

BikeRunSki · 20/03/2017 23:00

My cat is affectionately known as "Jellyhead". Even 5 yo DD had started pointing out her deftness.

cozietoesie · 20/03/2017 23:01

Stablecat is a Force of Nature, I think. Grin

hollinhurst84 · 20/03/2017 23:13

She had three mice, a wet food pouch Ollie rejected and half a tuna sandwich as a light snack
Tormented the dog, then demanded a human pick her up for a quick nap before going off bunny hunting - see photo mid flight!

hollinhurst84 · 20/03/2017 23:15

I wasn't convinced Ollie knew how to use a cat flap as I don't have one. But apparently he appeared in the neighbours kitchen the other day sitting silently behind her and staring BlushBlush

IHeartDodo · 20/03/2017 23:18

Haha MrsGotobed one of ours pulls the cat flap instead of pushing it!
We also have the door thing - if it's an inch or two open then the clever evil one will pull it open, but the stupid nice one will just sit there looking wistfully through it!
Stupid one also had a fight with the blanket and rolled off the edge of the bed the other day, it was hilarious!
Having said that the "clever" one will happily chew her own tail for hours when she's happy... does anyone else's cat do this?
