My 2 moggy kittens are black but with white roots. Is this what all black kittens have? Will the white turn black as they grow?
Here'a a pictures of Griff's belly where it is more obvious but all his hair has pale roots and black tips. His sister is simar but with short hair.

Mine has black whiskers and pads. He's black to the roots, but developed white armpits!

Botanicbaby · 27/02/2017 14:53

Aw they're all such gorgeous pics on this thread EnvySmile

I've got a huge soft spot for black cats my first dear pet was black DSH he almost looked chocolate brown in certain lights and had what I used to call 'double fluff' which were slightly longer bits of fur all over along with his usual short fur. Love the ones with all black 'stripes' Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 27/02/2017 15:24

Belle at the top is completely black, whiskers, pads and very black and is the boss hence being at the top! They actually have arranged themselves on tree in rank order!

fuzzywuzzy · 27/02/2017 17:58

Yes they're totally black pads whiskers everything.

Worse thing was I shut one of ours in the cupboard once then went frantic searching for him. Tearfully rang dp to tell him I had lost his baby boy.... only for a sleepy looking boy to emerge from dd's wardrobe later that day. I had checked the cupboards and everything but he like sleeping right at the back of cupboards hidden amongst clothes.

Sadik · 27/02/2017 18:11

Black everywhere here but with the very odd white hair which I womanfully resist pulling out. She's impossible to photograph and gets almost sat on rather a lot (not helped by the fact she likes to sleep on my very dark brown sheepskin Grin )

Allergictoironing · 27/02/2017 18:44

Oooh OP yours are sooo like mine! Black with soft grey at the base of the hairs (love that term "black smoke") and my girl has the tabby stripes as well - I was told that's called charcoal tabby and is quite rare.

Black pads, black whiskers - they also vanish very easily and have been tripped over if I get up during the night and are virtually impossible to photograph.

I doubt very much mine have any Persian in them as they have unusually long noses but they definitely have a rather oriental look about them, are slinky shaped rather than chunky, and have incredibly soft fur (hers feels like silk, his is like thick velvet) so I think there may well be something oriental in them.

FunkinEll · 27/02/2017 19:12

My 2 have both black and white whiskers. Their paw pads are dark pink with black areas.

Ah. Kitten photos Smile. I've got two B&W cats. The brother of my boy cat is pale ginger with a black tip on one of his ears. They are both sleek, big boys with gangly legs and both have quivery tail tips Smile. It's fascinating.

That photo is wonderful Belle Smile.

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 19:35

Thanks Heman .I saw them sat like that and quickly grabbed my iPad!!!!

poisonedbypen · 27/02/2017 19:39

We had a beautiful black cat whose mother was a blue Persian. His skin was always grey and when you combed him only soft grey fur came out.

HemanOrSheRa · 27/02/2017 19:40

If they are anything like mine then you were lucky to catch them. I've just had another look and I can see a little photo bomber ShockGrin! I'm hooting with laughter!

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 20:00

Yes that's Lily, she's the youngest, rescue and I hand reared her as she was taken away from her mother before weaned,it was touch and go but now she's a little bugger.Shes a mainly white tortoise shell.I believe that female tortoise shells are the most mischievous colour? She certainly is in this house anyway!!!!!

HemanOrSheRa · 27/02/2017 20:08

Heehee! Lovely Lily! Yes, I believe tortoiseshell cats are spirited and feisty Grin.

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 20:09

OMG! Bless her! Little teeny weeny baby. That is another lovely photo. I love these threads Smile.

Trustyourself2 · 27/02/2017 21:51

Belle2828, love your little poppet at the bottom. Is he/she always at the end of the queue?

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 22:09

No ,but there is a kind of pecking order I've noticed with them all....she is such a flippity gibbit ,she always gets the first lot of food and then rushes round to every other bowl...she is best pals with my little yorkie while the others run away from him... she rolls round play fighting him.Shes not the most affectionate of them all but still kneads and wool sucks on my clothes...She just doesn't like to be left out of things...little monkey!
