Help, plans in place to kidnap a cat!

I'm at a friend's house, she has 2 cats. Another cat in the neighbourhood keeps using their catflap to come in, terrorise her cats and spray everywhere. They are at their wits end and are now planning to capture the cat when it next comes in (by locking the catflap to entry only), put it in a cat basket, drive it 20 mins away and dump it. They are pretty sure it has an owner.

I am trying to stop them from doing this but can't suggest any solutions to their problem!

The cat flap and basket are in place and ready for capture! Help please, what can be done about this??!!

Removal/covering of the catflap would be a first move. As would a microchip flap, but does the flap have a battery that would need changing every so often? Are they willing to make any actual effort by way of deterring the invading cat? Is it spraying and fighting the other cats or just spraying?

Outside shelter for home cats could be provided in the form of a rabbit hutch or other structure if people are out at work and catflap removal choice is made. As in, would they be willing to be on door duty? Do their cats come to name being called?

Despite the unwanted and apparently invasive behaviour, this cat may be very much loved by someone. Are they really sure it has a home? I ask that because if there is uncertainty there are other options to consider. None of which involve the cruel and extremist action suggested by friend's H. Are friend's cats neutered btw?

An ex (I repeat ex) used to tell 'amusing' stories about his father disliking cats, who would lure them into his work van and shunt the cats out an hour's drive away. Wanker.

Sugarlumps333 · 01/03/2017 00:22

This has made me feel physically sick. Report them to the RSPCA, evil creeps. They shouldn't be allowed near any cats.

Sugarlumps333 · 01/03/2017 00:23

OP you are NOT - i repeat NOT an animal lover. Hope my cat never has the misfortune of meeting wankers like you in real life. Beyond cruel.

RubbishMantra · 01/03/2017 02:41

If their's any uncertainty as to whether the cat has a home, put a paper collar on him, with your/your friend's contact details.

Newmanwannabe · 01/03/2017 02:46

Wow. You are getting a battering. You have done a good thing encouraging your friends to not follow through with the plan. And you are providing them with info for the new flap. I've not heard of them either. (They sound great the flap not your friends DH.).

Sugarlumps333 · 01/03/2017 02:55

Yeah she is because she knows her friends are potentially going to do something that borders on deviant and she is not reporting them. What happens to the next cat her friends don't like? Animal lover but these are her friends? Yeah yeah. Sickos. Hope angry cat shows them how angry he really is if they try to bundle him into a car and dump him.

Newmanwannabe · 01/03/2017 03:28

The friends are not doing it though, and you can't report someone for a potential crime.

Sugarlumps333 · 01/03/2017 03:30

You can unfriend them. I wouldn't refer to anyone considering something like this as friends. And yes you can - you can report someone of suspected animal cruelty and they should have their own cats taken off them and given to owners who can be trusted with animals.

Newmanwannabe · 01/03/2017 03:55

yes for suspected abuse. But they haven't done anything.. apart from discuss it, there's no law against that. For all we know the husband might not have even meant it and the OP has taken him seriously.

Sugarlumps333 · 01/03/2017 04:20

I would still report it by saying what they are planning. And I would tell them I am reporting it.

Belle2828 · 01/03/2017 09:07

You definitely can report people for potential crime...I have ...to the rspca, police and local media so they have a marker placed on their house and if any more acts of cruelty or spates of kidnapping occur in a given a particular area the authorities and owners know where to look. I would do anything on the off chance an innocent animal was saved pain no matter how people may think you might be over reacting .

Belle2828 · 01/03/2017 09:10

And this was not potential they told you they WERE going to do it and had everything ready ...these people are fucking sick ...did you stop them or what?

Belle2828 · 01/03/2017 09:20

If someone told you they were going to mug some old woman would you not report that because it was only potential ???

Sugarlumps333 · 01/03/2017 14:14

Belle exactly!!! These people are SICK.

clairethewitch70 · 01/03/2017 14:23

I someone did this to my cat I would seek them out, kidnap them and dump them 20 miles like they did to my cat. Well I would want to anyway.

Really though, I would want them to tell me there was a problem and try and work on a solution together.

Oh, and I could never be friends with them for ever thinking of do that.

Same here GardenGeek, I never thought I could feel as protective as I do towards Harry. I wouldnt actually trust myself if someone hurt him.
