Help, plans in place to kidnap a cat!

cakedup · 25/02/2017 16:29

I'm at a friend's house, she has 2 cats. Another cat in the neighbourhood keeps using their catflap to come in, terrorise her cats and spray everywhere. They are at their wits end and are now planning to capture the cat when it next comes in (by locking the catflap to entry only), put it in a cat basket, drive it 20 mins away and dump it. They are pretty sure it has an owner.

I am trying to stop them from doing this but can't suggest any solutions to their problem!

The cat flap and basket are in place and ready for capture! Help please, what can be done about this??!!

Why are you grinning at the suggestion of calling the police?

Hgmother · 25/02/2017 17:02

You don't need a collar for microchip, the chip is under the cats skin on the neck.

DesolateWaist · 25/02/2017 17:04

They need to get their cats chipped and then get a microchip cat flap.

If I found out that someone did that to my girl I would fucking end them.

Caprianna · 25/02/2017 17:04

I could never be these peoples friend ever.

longdiling · 25/02/2017 17:07

They must be insane. Just set the bloody cat flap for out only and then open the door when they want to come in. Or give up on the cat flap altogether. Kidnapping a cat and then dumping it miles away is stupidly cruel.

HarrietSchulenberg · 25/02/2017 17:24

My cat used to do just this. Luckily my neighbour was not a stupid, callous, insensitive fucking arsehole like your your friend and between us we broke him of the habit (I bought her a waterpistol and she deployed it with gusto).
If you think this person is worth being friends with then you're as much of an arse as she is.

Wolfiefan · 25/02/2017 17:26

So they would rather dump someone else's cat than spend money getting their cats microchipped and changing the cat flap.
Are their cats even neutered? Hmm

ItsThatBeverleyMacca · 25/02/2017 17:35

The microchip flap doesn't need the cats to have a collar - just for them to be chipped. It then just opens for them when they put their nose to the flap.

gingertigercat · 25/02/2017 17:44

Please don't let them do this! I would be heartbroken at the thought of someone doing something so cruel to my little boy, especially in such horrible weather too!

Poor bugger will probably not be able to find his way home and/or get run over in the process.

If they're going to all this effort they should firstly get a microchip cat flap as mentioned or locate the owner and have a word. Any owner would prefer this.

I wouldn't stay friends with these people either

Janey50 · 25/02/2017 17:49

If someone did this to my cat,I would report them to the police. Not that my cat would go in through anyone else's cat flap as she far too nervous of strangers thankfully.

Vinorosso74 · 25/02/2017 18:07

Seriously?! Wankers. That is downright cruel. That could be a well loved pet, I would be devastated if someone did that to mine. Maybe an old person on their own. Even if it's a stray it's still wrong.
If you have a catflap it's a risk you take unless you get a microchip flap which is a simple solution.
In the meantime scare the cat somehow-water pistol, noise etc.
My DP found an intruder cat in our flat one night and it gave him such a fright he yelled, cat fled and has never come in since.
There are much kinder and sensible solutions than their idea.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/02/2017 19:06

God I hope it's not mine, he'd do this sort of thing.

Misssss · 25/02/2017 19:15

Fucking hell. Why are you friends with these people?

picklemepopcorn · 25/02/2017 19:21

I do hope you have stopped this, OP.

JustSpeakSense · 25/02/2017 19:23

Cunts

viques · 25/02/2017 19:38

They are at their wits end and you can't suggest any solutions. Well none of you are very bright are you?

I will spell it out .

  1. take cats to vet and get them microchipped, which IMO they should be anyway.

  2. measure current cat flap dimensions. Go to pets at home. Buy new Catflap that reads microchips.

  3. change old cat flap for new cat flap.

  4. dump these spiteful insensitive "friends", you won't miss them.

Trustyourself2 · 25/02/2017 20:43

How do they know that their cats aren't doing the very same thing?

They cannot be serious. Why would any cat lover be so cruel to a cat. I'd tell the owner of the cat what they're planning to do, now and then call the RSPCA and ask them to give them a warning.

One of my cats is an absolute bully and I have to keep her separate from my other two cats. She sprays the house if she manages to get beyond her quarters! So I'm living with it and wouldn't dream of dumping her in the middle of nowhere. How cruel.

cakedup · 25/02/2017 22:12

I'm back home now. My friends and I didn't know about microchip activated cat flaps so this seems like a really good solution, will text her now.

It's not so much my friend but her husband who is intent on doing this. I have persuaded her to not do anything tonight, and to find the owner tomorrow (she thinks she knows who it is) and speak to them about it. I'm not sure what the owner can do about it really but I just wanted to stall them.

For those saying end my friendship, this is my childhood friend who I've known since I was 6 years old, so no, I'm not going to end my relationship (as I said it's her husband's idea anyway). I've told them both it's cruel.
But then I am a vegan animal lover and I think slaughter houses and dairy farming are cruel. I can't go end all my friendships with people who eat meat or dairy now can I.

Trustyourself2 their cats never leave their small garden.

OP posts:
cakedup · 25/02/2017 22:15

viques I don't think being aware of the existence of micro-chipped cat flaps is necessarily a sign of how bright you are.

OP posts:
LemonRedwood · 25/02/2017 22:22

It is a sign of being a responsible pet owner though.

cakedup · 25/02/2017 22:25

I have two cats, I am a responsible cat owner, but I really didn't know there was such a thing as microchip activated cat flaps. These comments are getting really silly now.

This is the one we have if it helps, we had cats spraying in our house and eating our cats' food until we got this. We initially thought it was our cats acting oddly as we'd just moved house, until both me and DH saw a variety of strange cats brazenly wandering in and out of the living room. It works fabulously.

Help, plans in place to kidnap a cat!
tigerdriverII · 26/02/2017 00:01

I can't go end all my friendships with people who eat meat or dairy now can I.

Well, obviously you could. Especially when they are cat kidnapping idiots. Why the hell would you maintain that friendship?

bigearsthethird · 26/02/2017 00:22

How about blocking the cat flap and opening the door to let them in and out. Be ready with water pistol to shoot the other cat at same time. Once it's got the message start using the cat flap again
