Help, plans in place to kidnap a cat!

cakedup · 25/02/2017 16:29

I'm at a friend's house, she has 2 cats. Another cat in the neighbourhood keeps using their catflap to come in, terrorise her cats and spray everywhere. They are at their wits end and are now planning to capture the cat when it next comes in (by locking the catflap to entry only), put it in a cat basket, drive it 20 mins away and dump it. They are pretty sure it has an owner.

I am trying to stop them from doing this but can't suggest any solutions to their problem!

The cat flap and basket are in place and ready for capture! Help please, what can be done about this??!!

Surprised you've never heard of them. I've not got cats and have no plans to get any but I still knew about the microchip cat flaps.

AutismMum24 · 26/02/2017 00:37

Can't believe people would actually do that! It's so mean! At least try and sort it with the owner first and try the cat flaps and everything! This is no where near last resort, poor cat Angry

thecatneuterer · 26/02/2017 00:51

Of course not knowing about microchip cat flaps doesn't make you a bad cat owner. I only learned about microchip operated food bowls this week.

Anyway, on the subject of finding the owner and 'not knowing what they could do anyway'. What they could do to stop the spraying is have the cat neutered if he isn't already. That should stop the spraying at least, though maybe not the breaking in. Still, you now know what to do to stop the breaking in.

MrsNuckyThompson · 26/02/2017 07:51

Um, the clue is in the name. Microchip cat flaps read the cat's microchip so there is no need for a collar Hmm

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/02/2017 08:21

I wouldn't care how long I'd known someone, if they planned on doing something cruel to an animal the friendship would be over. They are disgusting excuses for human beings. Why didn't you insist on going with your friend to talk to the owner? It wouldn't surprise me if she had no intention of doing anything and just going along with what her husband wants.

ithakabythesea · 26/02/2017 08:25

I don't have a cat flap - never had in over 20 years of cat ownership. So it seems like a no brainer to me - get rid of the cat flap. Of course, your horrid friends would have to get off their arses and open the door for their cats - maybe they should just rehome their cats, they don't sound like suitable owner.

cakedup · 26/02/2017 08:39

I have told her to speak to the owner and if he is reluctant to get his cat neutered then I have offered to pay for it.

I now know what microchip cat flaps are, thank you. If you would like to know some facts about slaughterhouses that you might not already know (the clue is in the name) then I'd be happy to oblige.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2017 09:32

I don't know why slaughterhouses are relevant Confused

But I could not maintain a friendship with people who entertained such a callous idea and were quite happy to share that with me. No matter how long i had known them.

They probably drove the cat out and dumped it as soon as you left.

ithakabythesea · 26/02/2017 09:49

OP, I don't think slaughterhouses are relevant here. You sounded so blase about your vile friends nasty and cruel idea. I think everyone is shocked that you don't seem more disgusted by your friends planned animal cruelty when you profess to love animals.

Papergirl1968 · 26/02/2017 11:35

If I discover they've gone ahead and done this I personally will report your friends and you to the RSPCA and hopefully the lot of you will be banned from keeping pets for the rest of your lives. And if MY cat was dumped miles from home, I wouldn't like to think of what would happen when I got my hands on you. Your friends have a disgraceful attitude and you're almost as bad for your silly and inappropriate grin.

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 26/02/2017 11:49

Slaughterhouses are relevant because from the OP's perspective 99% of everyone she knows is complicit in hideous animal cruelty on a daily and ongoing basis, so she's not going to be as fussed about her friend's husband wanting to do something unkind but not lethal to one random cat. If she was to boycott everyone who engaged in animal cruelty then she'd be very lonely indeed.

Botanicbaby · 26/02/2017 11:55

Are your friends really thick?

I don't know how you can have such a cavalier attitude either, I'd be utterly fucking dismayed if anyone I knew planned to do such a vile, cruel thing.

I'd certainly report them for cruelty to animals, planning to do this is disgraceful. I feel sorry for their cats living with such a pair of twats.

WTF are you bringing up veganism for? Straw man. Or this is an idiotic wind-up dressed as faux concern.

MyKidsHaveTakenMySanity · 26/02/2017 12:09

I've owned cats for 30 years. I didn't know about ID chip activated cat flaps (until reading about them on here recently) as we've never had cat flaps at all. Must mean I'm a shit cat owner because we opened doors instead.

And as for the sarcastic comments about it being a microchip INSIDE the cat being obvious from the word microchip? Well magnets or microchips were embedded into collars years ago, long before we chipped the animals themselves.

OP, your friend's DH is a complete shit.
I know how frustrating having someone's unneutered pet coming into your home and causing havoc (and leaving a disgusting permanent piss smell) is. We had this trouble ourselves and had I not trapped the cat and Facebook shamed the owners to come and pick the little shit up, I would have had him neutered myself to stop him wandering 4 miles just to piss on my washing in the back yard. Or in my car. Or through my open kitchen door. Or in my cellar. And garage. And the playhouse. On my kid's bike.... fucking cat. Ugh.

Your friend was unreasonable to think dumping a cat miles away was reasonable. Personally I would have got rid of the cat flap first, used a Water pistol, contacted the owners or even posted on Facebook to find the owners (or shame, depending on their refusal to take action).

Wolfiefan · 26/02/2017 12:15

OP if they can catch the cat they can get a paper collar and write a note to the owner (in case it isn't who they think.)
Hope the catflap helps.
Notice you haven't replied about if friend's cats is neutered. If not that would explain why the other cat is breaking in!

Purplebluebird · 26/02/2017 12:19

Use lemon or orange water in a spray bottle, spray in the air above the cat whenever it comes in. Try to find the owner? We had a neighbour cat who was so vicious, would get in fights with ours all the time. After 3rd time at the vet where that cat almost bit my little cat's tail off (not joking, it was open flesh and was barely hanging on, but vet managed to fix it), we found the owner and told him what was going on. Cat was never let outside again thankfully.

Applesandpears23 · 26/02/2017 12:21

If they must do this then try to persuade them to take the other cat to a vet and say it keeps coming in our house and we don't know who the owners are. The vet can then contact the owners and return the cat (assuming it is chipped).

Kiroro · 27/02/2017 10:23

OMG I hope this is not for real :-( Why would people do this?

  1. Microchip cat flap
  2. Wet the cat when it comes in
3 Put a collar on the cat with a note attached

It really is up to the house owner to stop other cats coming in tho.

troodiedoo · 27/02/2017 10:30

Your friends are dicks. I hope they are tormented by cats forever.

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 10:49

What vile scum you associate with. I know first hand the pain of someone doing this and if I were you I wouldn't be posting on here .The owner would have been warned the rspca called and the police informed. On top of that your friends would have got distress laid on themselves for being cowardly spineless animal abusers.Do the right thing if you can't get someone to do it for you .You obviously know it is cruel and your friends are the lowest of the low..I would love their address they need to be stopped ,to even think this shows how callous and thick they are.

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 11:20

My cat was taken from the street so I have protectapet installed all round my garden now to keep Kretins like your friends away from my cats. I only knew my cat had been dumped miles away because he was microchipped and had been run over trying to get home over busy main roads. How cruel does that seem to you ? do you want to know people who would put an animal and owner through that. Have the balls to tell them what you think of them....in no uncertain terms...

QuestionableMouse · 27/02/2017 11:30

I also had a cat taken and dumped. She'd been run over and killed trying to get home. It breaks my heart to think of how frightened and stressed she would have been.

If your horrible evil friends are intent on doing this, can you take the cat from them and get them back to their owner?

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 11:44

I'm sorry, I know how awful it is. It's disgusting that a neighbour who may have an issue with your cat but rather than come to you they take the utterly spineless choice to do this to the poor cat...
I try not to think of it as it's just torture ,I just made sure my other cats wouldn't meet the same terrible frightening end where I was helpless to do anything for them.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/02/2017 12:04

Belle and Mouse, I'm so sorry about your cats, it made me cry to think of them trying to get home.

We are installing cat proofing as, while my boy doesn't go far, I want to make sure he's safe from the likes of the OP and her sick friends. The more I thought about it, the more I realise that I couldn't be friends with people like that and I would be reporthing them to the police. Maybe OP can live with herself knowing what they planning (and have most likely done) but I couldn't.

Belle2828 · 27/02/2017 13:41

That's very wise.Your cat doesn't have to go far for this to happen to him...A disgruntled neighbour who waves at you everyday could do this behind your back...If you can afford it I would advise all cat owners to cat proof their gardens .Whilst cats are roaming they are unfortunately prey to people like that. Absolute cowards.

Kiroro · 27/02/2017 14:56

I'm so sorry to read about people having experience of their cats being take and dumped :-( I don't understand it at all! Cruel.
