Can I take my kittens to my mums?

We're going to my mum's for a couple of nights next month and I'm wondering if we should take the kittens rather than leave them alone with only a neighbour popping in to feed and check them. They are approx 4 months (unsure on DOB).

The journey is approx 3 hours, how would it work logistically if we did take them? Cat nappies

I took our kitten to my parents for Christmas....she was the same age. The journey wasn't nearly as long but pop them into a cat carrier and have frequent stops to check on them.

What does your mum think? How are they in the car? Mine vomit and wee and poo and cry all the time. Can you be sure they won't escape from your mum's?

Can you be certain of keeping them in, no possibility of escape, as once outside in a strange place they could get lost or head back home.
They won't need nappies!

I need to ask my mum but I think she would be fine, haven't asked yet as hadn't considered it until I read something tonight that made me think it could be an idea.

They've only been in the car once on the way home from the rescue centre. They were fine then but obviously they were scared and nervous.

I feel guilty leaving them here with nowhere to roam and no one to talk to them all day. They're not lap cats but I think they enjoy having a human around.

Will it stress them out a lot to be taken away vs the stress of staying here with very little human interaction?

Re. the escaping, I think it would be fine. Plenty of doors that can be closed to keep them in and we are pretty hot on making sure they don't get out yet.

It's a long journey. They will probably poo and wee. Do you have a big enough crate to give them space to get away from any mess?
TBH I wouldn't be going away at this stage. (But then I'm precious about my fur babies!)

I've got to go and collect my human babies from Grandmas otherwise I wouldn't go anywhere .

It's unfortunate as H's parents who would help usually moved their holiday so they won't be here as would my second in command for the job as she's also just booked a holiday. I'm thinking about looking for a cat sitter.

I take my boy to my mom's which is only five mins away, and on holiday which is a good three hours. Admittedly he was about one the first time we took him, but he takes the journey and the rented house in his stride. Usually sleeps most of the way there and back. I leave him loose and he usually settles on top of the handbrake for some odd reason but I know most people travel with cats in carriers.
We put his litter tray on the floor but he has never used it.
Start taking them on short journeys to get them used to the car.

A friend of mine took her cat home over Christmas and said it was a nightmare as the cat did not travel well and she was worried about him getting out. Put them in a cattery to get them used to it. They will get plenty of fuss.

Thanks for all of your info and input on here. I'm going to have a look at a local cattery tomorrow for the two kittens to potentially stay at. They sound lovely so far and if all goes well tomorrow I will book them into there otherwise the trip is off.

We used to live over 3 hours drive away from PIL and would take the kittens whenever we went down. They lived in a flat though, and we made sure that they had no access to the balcony.

No need for litter tray etc, ours would just sleep.
