Rehoming - keeping cats where they are until rehomed

A friend has just adopted a lovely adolescent kitten from a semi-feral colony living in an office building. There is a sibling (not sure what sex) that still needs a home, office workers are willing to continue feeding until a home is found. Obviously time is of the essence as I doubt office workers would be prepared to pay for neutering.

I remember seeing a link on this board a while back for a scheme for rehoming cats with proper checks of prospective owners but without having to put the cat in a shelter - i.e. they stay in their current home until a new home is found - but I can't find the link, does anybody have it or know of such a scheme in SE London?

Cats protection league will sometimes catch neuter and release feral cats. Would the company be willing to take it on as a pest control contractor! If it is adolescent then needs to be done sooner rather than later.

Celia Hammond Animal Trust www.celiahammond.org/lewisham. They will neuter that cat and trap and neuter the rest of the colony (or have they all been homed?). They can also try to find a home for the cat after neutering/vaccinating etc by featuring it on the website. Then if someone expresses an interest the cat would need to come into the centre to meet the prospective adopters. This can only happen if the cat is friendly though.

Thanks! Neither of these were the one I was thinking about but on reflection, catch-neuter-release is probably a better, more realistic option in the short term. Friend says the cat lives in the office itself but I don't know how tame it is, it might be difficult to home. I'll pass these suggestions on

But Poltergoose the cat needs neutering now and presumably there is a colony which needs trapping.

Cats Protection are not very active in London. Celia Hammonds is really the only charity that can help with this.

There are some interesting stats from the States (I think) about cats who live in 'managed colonies' - i.e. where they're trapped and neutered and where some food is provided etc etc. They appear to live for much much longer than an average feral cat and, presumably, have happy lives. (Some cats have just left it too long to domesticate and socialise and really won't settle in a home, however loving and responsible the humans.)
