Cat missing since Tuesday

francis223 · 20/01/2017 06:34

We went to work on Tuesday, came home and she's vanished. We've had her almost a year and she usually stays very close to home, just on the next door neighbour's fence or garden or onto the very next street, so always comes running straight back when she's whistled for.

We often have other cats in our garden but she is usually good at staring them off her territory.

We've done everything recommended, flyers, posters, FB, vets and microchip firm. Hoover contents and litter in garden. We've been out walking every few hours to whistle and call, day and night but there is no sign. We've got a good view of our neighbours gardens and no movement. I've also been round to look into some of the gardens. We've knocked on a few doors and have several neighbours keeping an eye out.

One neighbour is convinced she saw her yesterday at midday just on the next street - she should have known her way home from there so I'm so confused as to why she just won't come back to us. We went out straight away after this sighting but no sign, yet again.

It's awful, can't concentrate on anything, just feels like a black cloud of dread hanging over us.

One of mine got out by accident and was hiding behind the neighbours bins. She would have seen and heard me calling for her and heard me rattling her treats.which never failed to get her attention. She never responded to me until I picked her up. She was obviously to terrified to move. So just be aware that just because she doesn't answer. It doesn't mean she's not there. Have you tried after dark with a torch? It catches their eyes. Don't give up hope.

Chickydoo · 21/01/2017 22:28

Maybe someone else is feeding her, & she will come home when she is ready.
Don't give up hope. Cat's do sometimes wander for days!

francis223 · 22/01/2017 21:33

Still not home.

Another local cat that went missing last Monday was found today. The owner put an update on FB that it was clear someone had been feeding him, that he smelt of someone else's home, and even though she was grateful that it could have hindered her search.
It's quite likely that she's been taken in. I'm completely reliant upon someone taking her to be scanned and their goodwill in that case. She always hated the cold and wouldn't go out in it, so I'm hoping that maybe she'll make her way home eventually, maybe when the weather is warmer.

OP, if you have made some posters, please go into the local schools, also ask them to make an announcement in Assembly.
It's amazing what children see and hear.
Good luck, I hope she's home very soon.

Chickydoo · 23/01/2017 23:11

Still crossing my fingers for you

dnamummy · 23/01/2017 23:31

Frances - keep leaping on here every time says there has been an update in the hope it is you posting some good news - as other posters are saying, there is still a chance she'll turn up so I'm keeping fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

Thanks to all your well wishes. It's been a week today.

A wonderful lady from our local fb group joined me to knock on doors last night, we had a thorough search and every house we knocked on had either seen the posters or the fb posts/fliers. Such a lovely lady gave her evening up to wander in the dark and cold to search with me. Met a neighbour who told me she takes my flier out every time she walks her dog and was so lovely. I feel like the whole neighbourhood is supporting me to find her but zero confirmed sightings.

I need to leaflet the top estate and just keep at it.

Sugar pie, I also put a post on fb asking for schools to mention that Willow is lost. One Mum on fb told me her 5 year old called out for her during her walk to school yesterday and want to take a different route today to call out again today. This made me quite upset but so grateful.

People looking is good. Really good.
When I was a child we had a cat go for I think three weeks. Shut in a garage. She found her way home. Still keeping it crossed for you.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/01/2017 10:23

I hope she's home soon Fran. Cats are incredibly elusive, makes you wonder if they slip into another dimension ! Don't stop calling and looking, she's out there, or snoozing on someone's rug, full of chicken!
They are also far more resilient, than we think.
My friend had two cats, one went missing, nine years later, (the other cat had passed by this time), she came home to find him on the bed !
The saying is, Cats have one home, and several hotels !
Don't give up hope. 💐

EachandEveryone · 24/01/2017 10:24

Where are you can I help?

OliviaStabler · 24/01/2017 11:01

Can you indicate where you are? Some of us might live nearby and can spread the word.

worriesabouttomorrow · 24/01/2017 11:07

My cat went missing for over a month, (we have no neighbours for miles either side of us just fields) I had given up all hope then one Sunday morning I could hear something, I looked out the window and she was clawing at the door like a mad thing!
Soaking wet and very skinny but she was home! Don't give up hope yet!
Also agree with pp, someone on here may be near to you to lend a hand on helping to look! Hope she's home soon

loaferloveforyou · 24/01/2017 14:20

If you are near me I'm happy to help with the search.

I hope she comes home soon Flowers

Ilovecaindingle · 24/01/2017 14:24

Have you stated that she needs regular medication? This might prompt someone trying to keep her to hand her in...

francis223 · 24/01/2017 14:53

Thank you so much to everyone. I'm based in South Wales.

No, she doesn't require regular medicine. That may be another missing cat.

We're beside ourselves with worry at this stage.

TrustySnail · 24/01/2017 16:13

I'm sorry she is still missing Flowers

How long can a cat survive without food/water?

I don't know a definitive answer, but they are amazing at surviving on minimal resources - I remember reading the below story at the time (sorry it's a DM link, but it might bring you some comfort).

francis223 · 25/01/2017 19:17

We had a possible sighting at 4.45pm today, my OH went straight away but by then she'd disappeared again. Not 100% that it was her - I've asked the lady to pick her up and keep her if she's see her again. She's happy being picked up and soft as a brush - we've got no way of catching her if someone texts and doesn't pick her up there and then. I think she must be being fed- the lady seemed to think she looked well fed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/01/2017 19:20

Aargh, that's so frustrating.

thecatneuterer · 25/01/2017 19:33

How far away from your home was the sighting?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/01/2017 19:56

Could you borrow a cat trap from the RSPCA, or a cat charity, they are usually understanding. Put it in the lady's garden, if it's not her, no harm done.

francis223 · 25/01/2017 20:06

That's what I don't understand, the sighting was just around the corner from our house, the same as last time, just a different part of the street. So why doesn't she just come home? She should know her way home from there, and I've walked there a million times since the day she went missing. She'd hear me from there, and usually come running.
I've put another post on Fb saying that if someone is feeding her and taking her in, in some ways this is kind, but it's preventing us from finding her, and her coming home.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/01/2017 21:23

Unfortunately, some people seem to be addicted, to feeding other people's cats. 🙄

Chickydoo · 25/01/2017 22:32

Fingers crossed it's a positive sighting & you get her back!
