What will DEFINITELY get cat pee out of carpet?

I have tried rug doctor pet urine remover both in my carpet shampooer, my floor steamer and by spraying it on myself and washing out with a damp cloth. The urine smell is still there.

Also what will deter cat from peeing there again as he has done it a feels times in the same spot. He is 3 years old and was neutered at 6 months. He has two litter trays which he uses but if there is even a drop of his own pee in one he won't use it. I change the whole litter several times a day but can't always be there between pees/poos to get it done before he needs to go again. He sometimes uses the bath or the shower tray which I don't mind as it is easy to clean but the carpet isn't.

Simple solution stain and odour remover. I ordered it from Amazon. You have to get the underside of the carpet and the underlay too.

Nooo! Don't say that. The carpet is the entire way through the house. I'd never get it matched.

Thanks jenny after googling I am currently trying white vinegar followed by bicarb as I have both in the house. Waiting for the bicarbonate to dry before hoovering. If that fails I will get the simple solution.

We had to replace the carpet I'm afraid and some floorboards.

Urine off cat & kitten. Apply liberally and leave it to soak, may take a few applications. Then use a carpet cleaner and warm water to remove as much residue as possible. If you can get the urine out properly he may well stop going there and go back to trays.

Surgical spirit - it is alcohol-based so will lift the smelly particles, which are fat-based, out of the carpet, whereas anything watery won't work.

Melaleuca but you need to find a supplier. "Sol u Mel" is the actual product name. It's the only product that works and Ive used it for about 10 years. I do not know why this is not more widely known because as an individual product, it could probably make way more money than the company makes trying to sell all their other products.
Once you spray it on your carpet, rug, or linen the smell goes immediately and you are left with a beautiful natural outdoorsy smell. Once that outdoorsy smell disappears there is no trace of the cat urine. Perfect.

Yy the 'simple solution' spray is excellent. It takes a couple of applications but we managed to rescue a rug the cat had done a wee on. Only problem with carpet could be if it has soaked through to the underlay and you would need to really soak it with the cleaner a few times so that the cleaner soaks through too.
I would ask the vet about your cat too, a drop of their own wee in a tray should not stop them from using it - and that doesn't make sense as the reason he won't use it if he is happy to wee in the same spot he has already used in the house (i.e. your poor carpet!)

I've lifted the carpet up where he has weed a shower it was right at the front door so easy to do. I've sprayed it with vinegar and blotted as much as I could and sprinkled bicarb. I've ordered some simple solution as well anyway just as back up. I think I'll need it.

We were at the vets a few weeks ago as he has a skin condition and I mentioned the peeing. Bet said some cats are just really fussy and to keep the tray clean but I think I'll go back with him as you're right it doesn't make sense that he would pee on the same spot but not in his tray.

Simple solution works but you have to saturate the area thoroughly. Bio washing powder in a string solution also works, but again you need to saturate the area, leave it to dry then somehow rinse it out.

Once they have peed somewhere the smell attracts them back there, which doesn't make much sense for a cat that refuses to use an even slightly smelly tray. Have you tried different litter, maybe that would help?

Now that you mention it, I was using the crystal type litter but all the shops round here have stopped selling it for some reason so I have been using the wood pellet litter. Maybe he just doesn't like it. I can't pinpoint when this started though.

We have this with our 5 month old kitten - he and his Mum were both using one litter tray on the advice of their rescue place but literally one day he refused to use the tray and started peeing on our sofa.

We used the Simple Solution spray but were also advised, once it's clean, to put some treats / food on the spot. Rub them in slightly so the area smells of food so that the cat then associates that spot with food and will avoid weeing there. So far we've not had any further accidents (crosses fingers). Also Feliway spray can help calm them down if it's a stress thing.

Oh that's a good idea to set some food there. I'll do that once it's dry.
