We live in the countryside and we were walking when we found the tiny one. I took her to the vet straightaway to get her checked. She has nasty diahorea but is quite bright otherwise. They gave me a deworming, a probiotic thingy...I try to give her kitty milk but she is not keen. She drinks water and some specialised food that I bought from the vet. I'm planning on offering food every 3 hours : milk-food-water...she is asleep on heating pad on low. What else can I do !? I'm really worried she is not drinking the milk :(

Ahh, that's fantastic news! (That she's going to be all right, not that she's got the bug...) Hopefully this will now be the turning point for your lovely girl.

twocockersarebetterthanone · 29/11/2016 21:54

I had that years ago (David Walliams has too). Easily curable. Fantastic news

The nurse told us that she had a shower today and that she was all fluffy afterwards !!

They gave her a shower and survived??? She must be a very laid back kit. Grin

Does anyone know if Giardia can be passed onto humans ? I have been feeling unwell for the last 3 days, headache, nauseas, tiredness...no temperature.

OP posts:
PhilomenaCunk · 30/11/2016 07:47

I've had giardia. I'm not sure about transmission from cats to humans, I'm afraid. You'll know it if you get it. I hope you don't.

Bella is beautiful- I hope she's doing well today.

EarlGreyTeaAndToast · 30/11/2016 08:05

Just read this and glad Bella is doing well!

Giardia can pass to humans I believe. Our dog was very sick with it and I took my then toddler to the GP with the same symptoms who said it was one of the few things that could be transferred. I never fact checked that though myself.

I hope you feel better soon too Flowers

ElizaDontlittle · 30/11/2016 11:32

You need to wash your hands very well - can spread by faeco-oral route. But you'll be properly unwell, diarrhoea, no appetite, cramps, +/- vomiting +/- temperature.

But yay for Bella, can't wait to hear that she's home!!

twocockersarebetterthanone · 30/11/2016 18:50

Actually you can have giardia and not have those symptoms. I reckon I had it for over 2 years and just always had a bit of an upset tummy but no other symptoms. Took two lots of antibiotics to clear it up though so must have had it "properly" even had environmental health round (was along time ago when they had time for things like thatHmm)

But agree that you need to be cleaning hands etc like mad

user1477462353 · 30/11/2016 20:13

She is not coming tonight or tomorrow I think. She tested positive for another bug. She is bright and lively but she has fresh blood in her poo this afternoon. I shouldn't have hoped. They say she is going to recover but I find it hard to believe.

I had giardia, it's a parasite, and given the close contact you've had with your kitten I would have thought infection was a definite possibility. I had explosive diarrhea and very very sulphuric farts and burps. Very distinctive! I don't remember any other symptoms. Give your GP a ring, explain about the kitten and ask if you should bring in a stool sample.

Evergreen17 · 30/11/2016 20:26

Sad we can still hope. Sorry OP this must be so hard...

cozietoesie · 30/11/2016 20:53

I doubt the vet would be so optimistic about her chances if they didn't think it was so. (In my experience, they often hedge their bets if there's any doubt.) Smile

Yawnyawnallday · 01/12/2016 05:50

I agree with cozie. Vets normally play it neutral.

BastardGoDarkly · 01/12/2016 08:07

She's a fighter OP, look what she's come through already! Don't lose hope Flowers

user1477462353 · 01/12/2016 08:37

I had a bit of a shit day yesterday so when the vet told us the latest I couldn't be positive ! I really hope she is going to be alright. If she is back this week end, expect lots of picture !!!

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/12/2016 10:31

Come on Bella! OP I've had a cat recover from being very ill, and after she'd had all her antibiotics/medicines the main thing that helped her was a very high quality all-meat diet. But that's for the future, she needs to get all her bugs out first. I'm crossing everything for her!

ChipInTheSugar · 01/12/2016 10:34

Am totally over invested in your accidental kitten!! #teambella

user1477462353 · 01/12/2016 11:50

She is coming back tonight !!!!

OP posts:
TimeIhadaNameChange · 01/12/2016 11:55

Yay!!!!!

Don't forget the pictures!

How are you doing? Spoken to your GP?
