My achievement of today...

...was getting this lovely boy to swallow his worming tablet!! Took me a couple weeks to rack up the courage! He didn't like it but I got away unscathed and he still loves me

I wouldn't even attempt it! My boy has a line in the sand when it comes to pills.

He soooo fluffy! If I have to give pills to Tinky I put them in a 'pill pocket' they have a salmon flavour she adores. Though she will eat anything I give her by hand so if I have to do it without then she is pretty good at taking it. It's the flea treatment she hates! My mums cat will not have any sort of pill unless in a pill pocket, or ground into her food!

We'll done! This was me last week. Turns out my cat has an ability to spit out a pill that is unbelievable and not like anything I've ever come across before. No matter how many times I got that pill in her mouth and no matter how tight I held her mouth closed out it would pop. In the end I crushed the tablet into some lick e lix and she ate it without complaint. Next time I won't even attempt getting her to swallow it. It was the first dose of wormer since we got her from the rescue and she's such a docile, compliant thing that I didn't anticipate it being so difficult. I had a really nervous, scratchy cat who hated being held when I was a teenager and whilst she didn't like worming tablets she was far far easier.

That's why I always use spot on wormer. I pick my battles.

I made the mistake of buying the worming tablets that have separate roundworm and tape worm ones, given over a 3 week period. Due to his size the poor little sod had to swallow about 15 tablets, which he did without complaint. If cats could cry he would be in floods but he did it. Spot on from then on!

I've now given up the battle, and do the spot on treatment, (Profender). MCat can lick his nose, swallow, and still spit the pill out. Surely it would be easier to swallow the damn thing! And he has the jaws of a pit-bull. Ouchee.

I avoid anything over the counter, Bob Martin being the worst, it can kill your pet.

After having to give our cat a gazillion tablets in the last 18 months I developed a cunning ploy of getting her whilst sleepy and it is relatively successful. Mean but effective.....

We had a new vet who confidently administered a pill to our feisty ginger (so feisty he has to go into a "handling bag") with her new piece of kit - "this'll work, it hasn't failed yet"..... It was a like a long pair of tweezers which you insert down cat's throat and then release the pill. She got it down, released the pill and turned away saying "I knew that would do the trick". When she turned back the pill was on the table and the cat was looking at her with what I imagined to be a smirk on his face. Poor lady, she was quite hurt! I wrapped him in the towel, wrestled him into a corner and shoved it down and held him down until it had gone - works every time but you need to be confident!
