How easy it is to go from 2 cats to 3 cats.

My friend needs to re home her kitten, her dd is allergic (you all know the story), however we already have 2 cats 7 and 5 years old.. Would I be mean to them if I get a new kitten ?

No you won't be mean. They will adjust.

They'll be fine and a new kitten will bring a whole new dynamic to your home.

I took in a tiny rescue kitten two months ago; my older cats were not impressed but they're all learning to get along and it's interesting observing how the pecking order changes

I went from two to three a couple of months ago...no problems at all...little bit of minor hissing for first few days but that was it..kitten gave ground to oldest cat right from the start so knew her place in pecking order...I do things like give them treats in order from youngest to oldest,strokes etc and that seems to work for mine...I have a tray each plus a spare- they normally all just use the same one...I also have cats beds hidden under our beds/up high on kitchen cupboards so everyone cat get some space if they need it...( mine are all indoor cats)

Yep well we went from 2 to 3 and had so many problems we had to rehome 2 and have them as lone cats.

Think pissing so bad they shorted the electrics, the tv, the toaster. We tried everything and in the end the only option was splitting them.

So i'd always say no unless you have a really big house and garden.

I think it all depends on the cats temperaments. Our first cat is very sensitive and very attached to us and we got her a companion early this year because she pined when I was out. She hissed at him for about 24 hours but after that she was cleaning him and they were sleeping side by side. Feliway can help too.
