What to do new cats keeping me awake at night

Ive posted this else where and was told to post here for more advice
Ive got 2 cats from a rehomeing center under a year old finally came out of hiding at 10pm but since midnight when myself and my daughter went to be bed its been a nightmare lol between meowing every now and again and the younger one hissing at the other one
Ive no idea what to do
Ive seen every hour on the clock and im really shattered and emotional as i feel bad as if ive made a wrong choice

Hope so i want to keep them but if this is going to keep happening i dont think i can which is a shame cause i love animals but never experienced this

Ones in my room under my bed and the other is in the living room under the dinning table
This is my first experience of keeping a cat myself so far its seems to be not what im used to think im more upset at the fact it might not work out and have to give them back im willing to give it a shot before making that choice and try again with another cat
All i know about the 2 of them is they are just under a year old both have had kittens and aren't used to being around people or in a house i knew it would be a challenge but didnt think how much

OK the fact that they aren't used to people or being in a house explains it. They are most likely completely terrified. My advice (and others will be more knowledgable but I have always had cats) would be that they need lots and lots of time. You really just need to ignore them, let them get used to the sounds and rhythms of the house, make sure fresh food and water is available and I believe the advice is more than one litter tray in different areas.
If you are prepared to be extremely patient then they will settle eventually but on their terms and in their way.

Can you limit how much of the house they have access to ? We had a door put at the bottom of our stairs to keep the little darlings downstairs as they kept us all awake chasing up and down the stairs and dive bombing on the beds!! Nothing wrong with putting them in the kitchen /utility room at night. At least til they get into a routine.

Im in a flat 2nd floor so needed indoor cats
Im thinking that they just need time too thats how ive said to my daughter we will give it a go and make it work and get them come round but we are in agreement that if we feel we cant cope that i need to phone the woman and take it from not wanting to do that though

I'm pleased you are going to try and make it work, it will be hard work at first but imagine how confusing it would be for them to have to go back to the rescue, they will have gone through all of that upheaval for nothing. They deserve a chance and as I said it will take time and patience.
It might be worth looking into a feliway plug in, they are meant to help them settle.

Im hopeful things get better and thanks fir the advice will let you know how things go
If they do end up going back least id know they are safe and hopefully get somewhere they can settle but so far im sticking with them

Bit of success the shy one that was getting hissed at by the other during the night is letting my daughter stroke her
Could there be a reason why the younger cat hisses at the other one from time to time

Have you got some Feliway? Either a diffuser or spray?

Ear plugs for you while they settle down and you get used to them.

They will probably settle down in a few days. Are they eating and pooping OK? Do you know if they were together at the rescue centre?

Don't be upset! It takes time for you to adjust, not only the cats! It's bound to freak you out a little bit but I'm sure you'll feel differently in a few days, when they've relaxed a bit as well. It's a huge change for you and them so don't fret

Zylkenes cheaper than feliway, think of it as a double g&t in a capsule. You sprinkle it in their food.

They where together at the fostering place had them in a cage outside with another cat next door i dont think the two are sister's
As for toilet the tray has been used and they have had some food not alot

Sounds like a good start. Please continue to give them time and space to adjust, it is such early days. I would love to hear any updates about how they are settling.

I will do im phoneing the woman i got them from tomorrow for some extra advice iam determined to make this work

Shut your doors at night so you can't hear them and they don't jump on you. It can take a long time to gain their trust. Took dboy cat about a month to come all the way to the front of the house (adopted from neighbours). He is still skittish and will run from loud noises. He is much tamer now (two years later) and comes up to us demanding stokes and sitting on us. He does fight with his sister and they do hiss but they don't hurt each other. Could it be more posturing and determining pecking order. My two will groom each other which is supposed to be a good sign, although it does lead to arguments.

Since i got them home they haven't went near each othet to groom one sits under the dinning table and will allow you to stroke her the other one hides away under beds and walks about but wont come near you
They have ate a little put some chicken down
Im sure the woman said they are not sisters but where brought in together when they where pregnant ones nearly a year old im sure its the one that doesnt mind you giving her a stroke and the other is younger

And its started again the meowing from one cat then the hissing cause the other cat wanted to come out of hiding
Im thinking one of them must have been used to the outdoors might be why shes meowing its always at night though

Sounds like they don't get on to me. Why did you take two out of interest? Despite what people say, cats prefer their own company as a rule. Kittens obviously will play together but a grown cat prefers to be alone unless has never know any different

Just dont think this is going to work hardly any sleep again last night even kept my daughter up for a bit got the woman coming round Thursday to see why and what can be done
I thought id get 2 so they could keep each other company when im out or at work
They dont seem to be settling at all

Lots of play to tire them out and maybe a few mini shelves so they can escape from one another. Google Jackson Galaxy and search up My cat from hell (dramatic title!) on YouTube. You'll find a way with these beauties.
