I just felt like sharing. Admittedly he's not the prettiest of cats.

I picked him up in the street just round the corner from me two days ago. He was unneutered, starving, filthy, flea-ridden and with a mouth full of broken and rotten teeth.

He hasn't stopped eating since I took him in, despite obviously being in pain from his mouth, and has already put on a lot of weight. He is even quite a bit cleaner, again despite the problem with his mouth.

The plan is to get him neutered and to have a dental as soon as possible. Then, as I expect no one will be falling over themselves to adopt him, he will end up joining my gang. What's one more after all?

(the dirty pink stain on the sheet in the first photo was as a result of me flea combing him with a damp comb. The water in the bowl turned a very dirty, dark red).

I imagine he became stray, as most unneutered males do, because he left home to chase a female and couldn't find his way home. That was obviously a long time ago though.

I can't seem to find any photos of him when he first came here, but here's my lovely boy a few weeks after he'd been with us, and a very recent one. I remember the volunteers at the rescue centre almost falling off their chairs when I said I wanted to pick him. I said 'I feel so bad on the other (younger) cats I've turned down' and they said 'you've really made the right choice for us. Trust us'

I would most definitely recommend adopting older. It's like they're more grateful for the nice home?!

Just to warn you about those 'last few years', Gin. We took on Seniorboy at 14, looking to give him a good 'last few months'. (We had a vacancy and - well - he was 'family'. Smile)

That was well over 7 years ago. Grin

He looks a happy chap Gin. I'm going for an adult rescue Bengal when the time comes. I see loads for adoption whose main issue is being a Bengal and doing Bengal stuff being destructive little buggers.

Ha! They said he could well live to 20, and I bloody hope so, but we still consider ourselves a retirement home! When we walked away from the centre with him, DP looked a bit distant. When I asked if he was still happy with my choice, he looked really worried and said 'is he even going to survive the journey home?'

I'll remind him of that in 10 years when GinCat is still waking us for breakfast Grin (hopefully!!!)

Seniorboy wasn't expected to make 15 - at the outside! Wink

Good luck to GinCat. Smile

Gincat a stunner. I note the dog is respecting the status quo. :)

No one wanted Mr C because he has FIV and was a bit dusty having been a gentleman of the road. He is my life, and I am more than happy about that.

Seniorboy had no such trouble, being a feline of rare distinction and beauty, but he is, literally, a living legend. Not many of us can say we know one of those personally :)

"A gentleman of the road", who was lucky that your paths crossed. And a life saving cat, into the bargain. Karma huh? Smile

Entirely Rubbish. And a lifesaver with the fluffiest tum around :) :) :)

Are the lads keeping you warm now the weather is turning? I bet they're really wedged in at night.

Oh he looks like a wretched version of my Ernie.

Hopefully he will be looking (Ern is dead glossy) as him soon

MCat likes to curl into my feet, Lana on his baby blanket for the night, (mmm, toasty). Little M into the crook of my knees. Then about 5am he decides it's time to get under the covers, and plucks delicately at my PJs until I lift the duvet up. He gets in and curls right into me so I have a little floofy, curly person that feels like silken crushed velvet to cuddle. I'm pretty sure Little M would stay under the covers all day - well he actually has done when I've been ill. I think he likes to pretend he's ill too, and will lift his head up to accept Dreamies, stashed in the bedside table drawer.

Gincat's beautiful, how contented he looks. He reminds me of Signor MCat, who also has the half mustachioed thing going on. And the black markings on the top of his head remind me of the late 80s hairdo for men - The Curtains! Put some Happy Mondays/Stone Roses tunes on, and see if he appreciates it. Grin

And Fluffy, if people are going to acquire a certain breed, surely researching the hell out of particular breed beforehand is common sense. Not just give up on it because it behaves like it's supposed to. What do people expect from a cat not far removed from a wild cat? Really nice that you're going to adopt an abandoned Bengal when the time comes.

I wonder how many Servals and Savannah cats will be abandoned for the same reasons. Sad

Curtains! Yes he does! I've never noticed that before, how utterly stylish he is Grin

GinCat woke me up this morning by sitting on my head and pawing my shoulders. He's so funny, he has to be as close as possible to me at all times. I tell DP it's because he knows I chose him from the rescue. That can be the only rational explanation. DP tells me I'm crackers.

How's the little girl doing?

Report
thecatneuterer · 01/11/2016 16:51

Gincat is lovely. It is so rewarding to take on difficult to home cats.

Cozie: the little girl kitten seems relatively ok. She can walk now, although she doesn't seem to want to. She must be around six or seven months old, but is the size of a ten week old. And she is very sedate, she doesn't run or play. However she loves to eat and loves cuddles and can purr for England, so I think her life is worth living. But there is obviously something very wrong. We just don't know what it is.

She was also the only surviving kitten from a feral litter (we assume there must have been more) so perhaps they all had something wrong.

I expect the vet's already checked for FIP, TCN? Was she found with her feral mum, or on her own?

Report
thecatneuterer · 01/11/2016 20:01

That was the first thing they checked for Mantra. She was with her mum who seemed perfectly healthy.

It's beautiful how Edgar's become Little Sick Kitten's friend and protector. I really hope she'll be OK. She's so tiny.

Is Edgar sleeping now? I remember at first you posted he didn't sleep, just groomed himself all the time. I wonder if her grooms her?

I am prac in tears at the emotional beauty of the feline friendship too M.

Mr C waves a paw. He spent the day in bed at the weekend and had a droopy eyelid, so we're vetting tomorrow.

He has asked me to tell Seniorboy MCat and LittleM that he recommends Hi-Life chicken indulge me! He also says Edgar would find it very spiritually healing after his ordeals.

I should add definitely not on his behalf that at prac a quid a pouch one needs to be feeling not so much indulgent as hypermanic, but that it looks v toothsome, like chicken in consomme jelly.

Cozie. I'm sure the mother was young. Feral mothers generally are. They don't seem to live that long when they have litter after litter.

Mantra - yes Edgar is sleeping now. He has become a standard-issue lazy cat. He's not eating or grooming excessively and likes to snooze.

I'm sorry to report that he abandoned Little Sick Kitten last night and slept wrapped round my head. Little Sick Kitten has a heated bed though, so she was OK I'm sure. He's back with her now.

Edgar slept wrapped around your head, eh TCN?

I suspect you wouldn't be keen to give him up for adoption now, you're his person.

Tis amazing how they know, without understanding any actual words, that all the poking and prodding from the vet comes from a place of care.

I imagine he was in cat heaven, pain free, safe, full tummy and a person to whom he could be a scarf/russian hat.

The MantraCats and I send healing thoughts to his little sickly kitten friend.

Report
thecatneuterer · 10/11/2016 20:46

Yes Mantra, he is becoming quite an affectionate cat, in a quiet sort of way. I'd still be happy to find him a proper home though. It would make space for another Edgar in need if you see what I mean.

He very much likes to be in the bedroom when I'm there and has made it clear to Lydia, the house Top Cat, who had previously claimed the bedroom for herself, that he is going to be there whether she likes it or not. And then in the day he is with Little Sick Kitten.

Little Sick Kitten is doing ok. She seems happy and eats well and purrs like crazy. She just isn't very lively and isn't really growing. It's very strange.

Lydia must be some cat to dominate so many. Good for Edgar.
