I just felt like sharing. Admittedly he's not the prettiest of cats.

I picked him up in the street just round the corner from me two days ago. He was unneutered, starving, filthy, flea-ridden and with a mouth full of broken and rotten teeth.

He hasn't stopped eating since I took him in, despite obviously being in pain from his mouth, and has already put on a lot of weight. He is even quite a bit cleaner, again despite the problem with his mouth.

The plan is to get him neutered and to have a dental as soon as possible. Then, as I expect no one will be falling over themselves to adopt him, he will end up joining my gang. What's one more after all?

(the dirty pink stain on the sheet in the first photo was as a result of me flea combing him with a damp comb. The water in the bowl turned a very dirty, dark red).

I imagine he became stray, as most unneutered males do, because he left home to chase a female and couldn't find his way home. That was obviously a long time ago though.

yeOlde: his teeth are in a terrible state - there are a lot of broken stumps at the front which must be extremely painful and rotten molars at the back.

Poor guy. I take it he's supposed to be black and white? Can you keep us updated with his progress?

Poor little fella, pictures made me want to cry - I think I can see some improvements already, would love to see a continued progress report! I'm just so glad he has found a loving home Grin

Makes me want to give in I always give in to the three fluff-bombs who have been hanging out around the oven getting under my feet all afternoon in the hopes of chicken Grin

Pepsi - you can't possibly have chicken and not share it!

Yes, he is of course supposed to be black and white. And I will update this thread with his progress.

Oh goodnessSad I'm looking at the pics on my phone so not very clear he just looks gorgeous to me!

I wouldn't be alive after being a cat owner (ok slave) for ten years if I didn't share chicken Grin

One looks at me with murderous eyes at the meer mention of chicken.

I have one with very bad stomatis - awful disease and whilst I know it's not the same, she has very uncomfortable gums and teeth (ones she has left) at times. Our vet has just suggested using corsidol once a day (very important it is the non-flavoured as the flavouring in the sweet ones is poisonous to cats) but it has eased some of her pain, I wonder if he will allow you to do this and if it might help whilst you wait for his dentistry? It's a nightmare doing it, but if he is amminable (this one just lets me squirt it in, wiggle her cheeks and then she spits it out) might be worth asking the people you work with if he has to wait for treatment

Poor little fella!

Having read a thread about a woman wanting rid of her cat, I'm glad some people will help abandoned ones Flowers

If I didn't have my spoiled little man I'd definitely take him off your hands, I think he's gorgeous (then again I am biased as black and white cats are my favourite)!

Awwww what a scruff bag. He is adorable in my eyes. I am posting in the hope of seeing what he looks like in a month's time when I am sure he will look magnificent. Thanks for all you do for cats.

What a sweet boy he looks. I am sure the transformation with food, love and care will be amazing. I wonder how old he is, he looks as if he fended for himself for a long time. You are wonderful to look after so many cats, and it's amazing they all live in harmony. I have adopted a stray black female cat a few months ago, and there is still quite a lot of hissing between her and my ginger boy.

cozietoesie · 25/09/2016 18:59

I don't know, GRW. If I were a single cat joining a household of one other, I could think that some hissing might avail me - but another 20 plus? I'd just keep my head down, find the services and wait until I'd worked out the lie of the land, I reckon. Grin

GWR is it just one new addition to a household of one cat?

My oldest has had three new additions, first (who sadly died very suddenly - still upset about that little fella) when she was 2, not a single issue. Second addition, she didn't like much (now they are glued together) and third she really didn't like (all three now glued together)

Each time, (recommended by a cat show judge) I sprayed my hands with my perfume and then "rubbed" the new addition, and every time it worked. Prior to that tried feliaway which eased things a bit, but the perfume trick made her much happier about them.

He'll be all sleek and shiny in a month or 2, I'll bet.

Poor little thing, his body seems so fragile. Thank fuck you found him.

I wonder how old he is?

He will be beautiful in a few weeks.

RubbishMantra · 25/09/2016 19:37

And imagine how happy and relieved he is to have somewhere warm, dry and safe to sleep, and not have to panic about where his next meal comes from.

Edgar suits him - he looks like a posh boy who has fallen on hard times.

Pepsi I did have 3 cats already when I adopted the stray black cat, but sadly the youngest one was killed on the road a few weeks later. I advertised the stray on local groups to try to find an owner but without success.

However with you as his new mummy. His life will improve a whole lot

He's starting to look content in the second and third pictures. Very good luck to him. That mouth must be a great trial.

Oh TCN, you are such a star, you really are.

I don't think he's ugly at all - just looks like a teddy bear who's a bit tatty, all he needs is a bit of love.

Hope he can get his teeth sorted soon and look forward to updates Smile

Poor Edgar though lucky for him he found you. He does look like he's been through it but with a bit of TLC I'm sure he'll be a handsome boy.
Amazes me people don't get their cats neutered or is it the case when they get males they won't have the responsibility of the kittens and don't see beyond that?
Keep us posted on him.

Some people seem to take it almost 'personally', Vino, in my experience. As if they were robbing them of enjoyment or something.

Our boy cat (the only male cat we have) was a bit put out when we took in a stray female a couple of years ago but they become wonderful friends. Sadly she got run over but since then we have taken in another three cats, all female.

Boy cat is 14 and plays with the 2 year old girl all the time. They are so funny, chasing each other around, they hide in the cupboard and jump out on each other. He will happily share the sofa with the 10 year old girl and he will be find with our new cat as well.

As long as you do gradual introductions and each cat is still getting lots of attention I think it's fine to have a multi cat household. I will be stopping at 4 but if a stray such as Edgar turned up then I'd find it hard to say no.

He's just so sweet. I just want to cuddle him.

I thought that the lifespan of a feral cat was typically only 3-5 yrs. Because his ears are so good, I don't think he's been a roaming tom very long. Makes me think he's like 12-18 months old at most.

My goodness I nearly cried looking at those photos. The poor little scrap. You can already see him looking less ratbaggy in the 2nd and 3rd photos. Looking forward to seeing his transformation after a few weeks of TLC

It's difficult to tell with some cats, ye. He needs a few weeks of TLC in any case. Smile
