Oops I did it again! (cat number four)

DD2 asked me to take her to an animal rescue centre she'd raised money for at school. I KNEW this would be a bad idea, esepcially after looking at the website and clicking on the photos of the cats and kittens but a promise is a promise.

So we turn up and before I've even paid for a cold drink a lady asks us if we are there to rehome an animal. DD pipes up with yes please, can we look at the cats?

After eliminating all the cats who are male or can't be rehomed with other cats we were told we could come and see Bella.

Bella is 5. She used to live a long way from here with several other cats and the owner died and all the cats were shared around the rehoming centres. She is extremely timid and has been overlooked so many times that she has now been there over four months.

DD and I sat in her pen for ages, chatting to her and eventually she let us stroke her, she started purring and rolled over onto her back and showed us her tummy. I was gone at this point. Four months!! How the hell can I walk away from her?

We hopefully pick her up at the weekend :o

ah congratulations!

She came out from under DDs bed late last night and jumped on dd on the bed. Sat on her chest and licked her nose. Then had a wander round dds bedroom, ate some biscuits.

It is stifling hot here and I ended up having to shut the other three cats downstairs and leave dds room door open. Bella came into our room in the early hours, had a bit of a cry, walked about a bit and then went back under dds bed.

Bella doesn't hiss or growl at all. She just cries. It's heartbreaking!! But she's had some food again today, used the litter tray and is just continuing plotting world domination from the safety of a toy box under the bed!

wigels I didn't ask dp. I just phoned him and said 'now don't be cross but ...' and he just sighed and asked how many :o He's a big softy, he never wanted more than one but he loves the others too.

Aww she's gorgeous!

We've just taken on an 8 week old male kitten... he's pure white and hilarious but you forget how baby like they are at that age. Boy totally spoilt adult cat had the hump but hopefully he'll come around (with the aid of dreamies)

She's beautiful. Wonder if she's got some Persian in her. Those eyes look she has.

Potentialmadcatlady · 26/08/2016 19:16

The shy timid cats are totally worth it. I rescued my black cat after he'd been in the shelter for six months. He was a nervous wreck and never even came out for us to meet him.

He lived under the cabinet in the bedroom for three months before being able to come downstairs.

He's now the most devoted and loving cat there is. He follows me around the house and is gentle and so sweet.

Enjoy your lovely rescue girl. She has beautiful eyes.

Big cat is pure black so if they ever even get near each other without bolshy kitten hissing it would be me taking a photo opportunity :)

I am a softy too and that's how I've ended up with six, yes blooming six.

People message me when they cant cope with their cats anymore due to allergies etc, kittens they've been "stuck" with. I've even had people knock my door at 9pm stating they've found a kitten and can I look after it till owner found.

I just cant say no damn it. However I wouldn't be without my Maxie, Barrie, Eddie, Wlson, Kirby and Eric for the world.

I am now banned from visiting anything rethinking centre's by the family for a very long time

Melting at the cat and kitten photos!!

Glad it's not just me who is completely unable to say 'no' when it comes to anything feline.

Last night we left DD's bedroom door open again and shut the others downstairs. However, not sure how but girl cat 1 managed to get up to our room to lie on our bed. Woken in the early hours by a sort of wailing noise. Bella was lying on the landing wailing and girl cat 1 was sat in the bedroom doorway looking confused at the arrival of a new cat. No fisticuffs though.

Dp got up this morning and found Bella sat at the bottom of the stairs but she shot up past him and back under DDs bed as soon as she saw him.

Tonight, after us all being out all day, DD and I sat in her room looking at a bird book and Bella crept out, looked at us, ate some biscuits and promptly went back under the bed. I'm getting a feeling this cat is going to be a long work in progress. But it's fine, there's no rush. She's eating and drinking well, using the litter tray and hopefully getting the time to explore at night in peace.

Quick update.

Six days in and Bella is still under DDs bed. Tonight I took up her wet food and waved it about to show her and then put it down and she actually came out. She ate some and then came over for a head rub. She was licking my fingers and purring. We had about half an hour just sat there, she was rolling about on her back waving her paws, instigating me rubbing her head and then when she'd had enough, went back under the bed and got back in the toy box.

Progress!
