Toys for cats who can't cat.

Crazy cat lady post! My beautiful girls are coming up to their first anniversary of adoption and I want to buy them something. They really don't know how to be cats, so many toys are out. They have no idea what to do with those teaser things.and they don't do boxes. They have a laser pen and some cat nip birds with feathers on. Any other ideas? My house is tiny so space is limited.

Cheese flavoured Dreamies.

They can't do that either. I've got them a dreemies mouse dispenser, they are supposed to kick it to get the treats but have absolutely no clue! They were breeding queens and lived in a cattery all their lives. Not over endowed with brains!

Knit them bonnets?

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2016 00:02

Ha ha my sister is an avid knitter....

pure catnip?

LittleCandle · 01/08/2016 08:03

I have rescue boys like this - no idea how to play at all. It is quite sad for them. I have had them now for 7 years, and one of them now quite likes to be picked up for a cuddle, but it took me 5 years to get there. The other only cuddles when at the vet...

TBH, I think your best bet is to just treat it like any other day. The best thing I ever bought the boys turned out to be ruinously expensive cat baskets, where they feel secure, as they are protected all round.

HuckfromScandal · 01/08/2016 08:03

Catnip

My cat doesn't "cat" either. Bless him. Rescue cat - about 7, fairly rough first few years I suspect.
So - he doesn't "cat" at all. But my goodness, 7th heaven for the catnip. He goes all drolly and googoo eyed. Grin

Aw, my dogs are like this but they do have a favourite treat so I keep this in stock. I know nothing of cats bit avert a few years I'm still seeing new behaviour and one of my dogs nearly began to play a few weeks back. It was caught on film and it was amazing to see!

TobleroneBoo · 01/08/2016 08:11

Bubbles?

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2016 08:17

I only get cuddles with one of mine at the vet. The other one will tolerate it for about 30 seconds. Bubbles are a brilliant idea!

Apparently you can get catnip bubbles. Not that I can remember where from but I saw them online

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/08/2016 10:11

I bought catnip bubbles for Harry. He disappeared behind the neighbour's shed and didn't come out for ages!

I've found the best catnip is in mice made by Molly's Mice. It absolutely stinks so it might tempt them!

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2016 17:46

Bubbles was a genius idea. Can't find cat nip ones but got some cheap kids ones and the confused look on their little faces is priceless! They are still looking for them. Will invest in some better ones tomorrow as the ones I got are rubbish!

Ha I have a rescue queen as well Toddler mine is a Ragdoll so not over-endowed with intelligence to start with as the breed is heavily heavily inbred. What breed is yours?

Mine runs away from bubbles, she has a cat's meow toy which is OK but has fallen in love with one called a CatIt Senses Play Circuit.

She loves it, she plays with it every day & all she does is push a ball around again & again. When she goes to the cattery then we take that with her, she loves it so much. You can put it in 2 shapes, she isn't too keen on the S shape but put it in a circle & she wont leave it alone.'

There's also a cat nip banana on Amazon that is her second favourite, she rubs it all over her face & gets stoned :)

TheRattleBag · 01/08/2016 18:03

I can heartily recommend a Kickeroo. My two cats love it, and all the people I know who have one say the same. It seems to appeal to their natural "ripping something to shreds" instinct!

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2016 18:19

Midnight, they are Persians so like your , slightly lacking in the brain department. Grin

Try "Da Bird" cat teaser, it's amazing. Really long stick with angled feathers that fly very realistically, my cat is quite picky with toys but she loves it. I'd also recommend "Yeowww" toys, they have extra strong cat nip in them which seems very popular in our house.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2016 22:15

Thanks, will look at the yeoww ones. They have some nice things from etsy that they play with. Fatty cat has just sat in my discarded bra and started playing with it. She must be reading this thread!

Oh they are gorgeous! :)

Toddlerteaplease · 02/08/2016 16:27

Bought some bubbles for my parents cat. He was terrified of them. It was very funny!

My Persian doesn't really understand any games apart from the laser pen.
