Hello. I have had some wonderful support on here following the death of my dear 18 year old cat Molly last Sunday. We are hoping to get her ashes back on Monday, have picked a lovely spot in the front garden to bury them and ordered a little memorial stone with her name on.
Today we took her leftover food to the cat rescue charity where we got her from 17 years ago. Lovely lady in there, immediately said 'Are you getting another one? Have you seen Lottie?' and showed us a picture of a beautiful 1yr old girl in the window. Likes older children - tick. Needs lots of space - tick. Needs a forever home - tick tick tick.
I explained, yes we miss having a cat, but we haven't even buried Molly yet, we've got two one week long holidays coming up (my mum and dad usually come up twice a day to feed the cat and would have done so this year as usual). 'Oh well have a think and come back when you're ready' said the lovely lady.
So now I cannot stop thinking about this cat! My boys were with me and started to get excited, I had to explain it might not be the right time, we can't replace one cat with another, we need to find the right cat etc.
BUT I do miss having a cat. My house feels a bit less like a home without one. Part of me wants to go and see her, but that would be worse if I fall in love wouldn't it? Wouldn't it?!!!! Talk sense to me please!

Thank you Rusty and I am pleased you found support on here, to be honest I don't think I would have coped without everyone's kind words and understanding on this and my other thread, not everyone IRL understands why its so hard to lose a much loved pet. I am pleased you've found another cat to love, he was meant to be with you.
Flowerssorry for your loss too.

Sooooooo.........
Lottie is ours! Have paid her adoption fee and some extra for her keep for August, she's coming home after our holidays! Took my two DS with me, she went straight up to 12 yr old and started licking his arm!
She is beautiful, very playful but also affectionate. Likes to climb and scratch so just been to Pets at Home and bought a scratching tower thing. Oh and a litter tray, igloo bed, several toys....... Just a little bit excited!
Thanks to all of you for all your support on this thread, it is truly appreciated. I dare say I will be back asking for lots of advice in the near future!

Posie I was on your other threads, but I've only just seen this one.

I'm so, so happy for you. Lottie is gorgeous & she'll have a wonderful home with you.

So glad it's all worked out Smile

What a lovely story. She's clearly decided on her new slaves. How nice to look forward to picking her up when you return. Congratulations.

cozietoesie · 29/07/2016 14:17

Shall you take an old fleece or something in for her so that she knows the 'house scent' when she arrives? Smile

Sometimes the right cat is there, even if it feels like it's too soon!
I lost my boy 6 years ago, we had another cat who had been brought up with him from being a kitten and she missed him terribly straight away.
2 days later I was online and started to look at Ragdoll cats as I was thinking of having one, but not for a while, just wanted an idea on how much I was looking at for one
Just to add, all our others were rescue cats, but I had always wanted a Ragdoll.
I decided that If I had one, it would be a boy with a grey face and paws....what pops up online...a boy with a grey face and paws who'd had a deposit on him but the people changed their minds and he was alone as his litter mates had left...he came home the next day and he was the perfect cat, so like my boy I had lost but so different too.
Everyone said they couldn't belive I got another so soon and I had some hurtful comments from 'friends', that I never loved my cat if I could replace him so soon.
Ollie isn't a replacement in any way at all, but he helped to heal the loss I felt.

Its too soon, isn't it? Talk me out of this....

Ah winchester he is a beauty! What a shame you had some negative comments. I have been so lucky to receive such positivity from this thread and all the lovely posters. The thing is, I didn't realise how much my Molly was on my 'radar' until she was gone. The lack of cat or 'cat shaped hole' as many have put it, is unbearable. Drive into the driveway, no cat trotting across the lawn to greet me. Open up the lounge door in the morning, no loud mews saying good morning. Roast a chicken, no annoying cat tripping me up going crazy with the smell. They are just part of the family and part of your life. I get it. And your boy has a wonderful forever homeSmile lucky puss.

Yay! Good news! Life is just not right without a kitty in the house! Grin

cozietoesie · 29/07/2016 16:34

Pay no heed to them, winchester. Smile I mourn my boys' passing intensely but I know that I'm always going to have another Siamese so it's really just a question of when they pop up.

(And, frankly, when the new boy arrives, walks in and commandeers the house, you really don't have time to think much. You're assailed with 'Me, Me, Me, My Food, Me, Me, Me, My Sunshine, Me, Me, Me, My Goodness have you seen the state of that Chinese economy, Me, Me, Me............BED!!)

You almost need gin! Grin

Poise,
Fab news, bet you can't wait! Lotter looks fabulous.

soulfuleyes · 31/07/2016 00:25

Lovely!

Can't wait to see when she settles in. Your Molly will thoroughly approve!
