Hello. I have had some wonderful support on here following the death of my dear 18 year old cat Molly last Sunday. We are hoping to get her ashes back on Monday, have picked a lovely spot in the front garden to bury them and ordered a little memorial stone with her name on.
Today we took her leftover food to the cat rescue charity where we got her from 17 years ago. Lovely lady in there, immediately said 'Are you getting another one? Have you seen Lottie?' and showed us a picture of a beautiful 1yr old girl in the window. Likes older children - tick. Needs lots of space - tick. Needs a forever home - tick tick tick.
I explained, yes we miss having a cat, but we haven't even buried Molly yet, we've got two one week long holidays coming up (my mum and dad usually come up twice a day to feed the cat and would have done so this year as usual). 'Oh well have a think and come back when you're ready' said the lovely lady.
So now I cannot stop thinking about this cat! My boys were with me and started to get excited, I had to explain it might not be the right time, we can't replace one cat with another, we need to find the right cat etc.
BUT I do miss having a cat. My house feels a bit less like a home without one. Part of me wants to go and see her, but that would be worse if I fall in love wouldn't it? Wouldn't it?!!!! Talk sense to me please!

If you're unsure if her age ask the vet. The rap and said our cats were three. They were 12 and 18 months only Shock.

Wolfiefan · 22/07/2016 14:28

Oh my good lord she's gorgeous. You won't need to talk DH round. One look and he'll be smitten!

cozietoesie · 22/07/2016 14:34

She's a very self-possessed looking girl. Quite gorgeous. Smile

Your holidays are the only thing that would concern me.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/07/2016 14:36

Thanks so much for all your posts. And Flowers for all of you who have lost a beloved pet.
I have just had a chat with a woman from the rescue centre. Explained our situation etc. She said she has had a lot of interest but wants to find the right home (me me me) but would like us to ring after our first hols and see if she's still available. At which time she would be happy for us to reserve her and bring her home in Sept.
Now I have to be patient and wait! I know she's talking sense. And best I don't go and see her just yet as I would probably have to steal herGrin

We lost or lovely boy last year to antifreeze poisoning and were heartbroken (completely and utterly).

This was at midnight on the Sunday into Monday...by Friday we had been to the CPL and found a new fluffy friend and she came home on the Saturday.

Yes it was fast but immediately we felt that the home was missing something, a big cat shaped hole was appearing very quickly and by chance, the following week was the only week where there would be someone in all day every day without fail in order to settle her in (would've been 8 or so months until that happened again) so we did it and haven't regretted it

We still miss our boy but she's certainly wormed her way into that cat shaped hole we had!

cozietoesie · 22/07/2016 14:45

If she's 'the one' for you, she'll still be there I think. If she's not there, she'll have found a good home elsewhere.

Let us know how things go, anyway. Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/07/2016 14:52

IHope Gosh that's awful, poor you going through thatFlowers and I am pleased that you have filled your cat shaped hole, that is exactly what we have in our house, I hate it!
Cozie and everyone else I will definitely update. Trying to adapt a calm 'if its meant to be' attitude! And in a way its helped me realise that we will 100% be getting another cat, there is one out there just waiting for us!

Our beautiful girl was killed on the road earlier this year. We found out on Thursday and on Sunday applied to the Blue Cross to take a pair of kittens. We felt guilty for not waiting but we felt ready. There was a huge hole in the home, the kids were devastated and the prospect of new cats to love kept them going. We've had a horrendous year anyway and just needed something good. Our little monsters are lovely and keep us busy, although we all still miss our old girl. There really is no right or wrong time I think. Flowers

Wolfiefan · 22/07/2016 14:59

I was sooooooo desperate for another cat when we lost our old girl. I stalked rescue websites and was a bit um obsessed.
Our two are beautiful. They were only available because someone else had turned them down. (I had seen them online previously but they appeared to have gone.) it was almost line they waited for us!
Good luck.

SlinkyVagabond · 22/07/2016 15:08

I lost my Mackycat earlier this year (thanks to everyone who was lovely) we still have Billy, who is an old boy but in good health. But despite me swearing blind we would not ever have another, I miss having a second little body about the place. I have not at all been looking on rescue sites, no no no.

MyKingdomForBrie · 22/07/2016 15:13

Difficult. She's so pretty I don't think she will be there after your first holiday, I would be concerned that she might go to the wrong home in the basis of being so sweet looking Sad

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/07/2016 15:19

MyKingdom the lady I was speaking to said she'd turned quite a few people down as they weren't able to give her quite the right home, and we did have a long chat about how well she'd fit in here (wishful thinking....) I do trust them as a cat rescue they definitely put the cats needs first.
We will see in August. I will let you know. The right cat is out there somewhere! Really appreciate all of your insights and advice. Smile

Harry appeared on the rescue website in December and I begged and pleaded with DH to adopt him then. Being mean realistic he said no (we'd just moved house) but we could get a cat after Easter as we were going away.

My birthday is in March and in the end DH agreed we could cancel our Easter holiday and we could adopt a cat as my birthday present. Harry was still available on the website but, when we had the home check, we were told someone else was looking at him and we couldn't see him. I was gutted but I knew we would give another cat a good home and then I got a phone call to say the other person didn't want Harry, were we still interested!

We went to see him and the rest as they say is history. He was obviously meant for us.

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/07/2016 18:37

Ah Pink that is a lovely story! Your Harry was waiting for you! How you managed to wait for him is beyond me though - I now desperately want a cat! Mum and dad have kindly offered to look after a cat for us if we did manage to get one before our second holiday at the end of August, so that's one hurdle... Drawing on my limited reserves of patience....Grin

You're best waiting till both holidays are over, I would have thought? Smile

MiddleClassProblem · 22/07/2016 18:46

It's not fair to the cat to have you then your parents then you when it's trying to settle. It really needs to just understand the set up of your family and the house first

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/07/2016 21:40

It caused a lot of arguments. He was the best birthday present I've ever had though - the gift that keeps on giving!

You will find the right cat Flowers

Geepee71 · 23/07/2016 08:58

I'd bet tempted to speak to the rescue centre about paying fees for a month, then you know she'll be waiting for you, you could go an visit between times too.
I don't think it's too soon, I know I'd to fill the cat shaped gap, not as a direct replacement, but as a new cat with different character etc.
She is beautiful.

bluetongue · 26/07/2016 11:54

I think the right time is different for everyone.

Just from the tone of your posts it sound like you have fallen for her. She looks lovely.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/07/2016 14:06

I love 'fate' stories. I was not thinking of getting a cat because I live near a busy road and work 13 hour shifts. When a photo popped up on my Facebook of the cutest cat is ever seen with a caption saying that they couldn't believe she'd had no interest. That did it. Rang up the rescue and every argument against not having them fell apart. They were destined to be mine. Best thing I've ever done.

The pictures I fell for!

Cat adoption would rocket if all cats came with a free bottle of wine.

PosiePootlePerkins · 28/07/2016 16:55

Eeek! The lady from the rescue centre rang, they've had lots of interest in Lottie but no-one quite right, she wants us to go and meet Lottie tomorrow morning, if all is well she will reserve us until we are back from our holidays! Trying not to get excited, I really hope this is meant to be!
