Laser thingies for cats - is this normal?

Just bought a laser pointer thing for my cat. She loves toy mice and chasing balls, bits of string etc. Her energy is relentless and often wakes me up in the middle of the night with a ball in her mouth which she drops on my face. Anyway, heard it was a good way to play/engage tire out the lovable bugger so tried it out tonight.

Except...she just looks at the red dot then at my hand with a look of Hmm seriously? How stupid do you think I am?

What a waste of a fiver AngryGrin

My cats don't really do toys but they do pick random small stuffed toys from DCs' beds, carry them round the house like kittens then abandon them. At least, I assume that's what they do. In ten years I've never caught either cat at it, only ever found the small cuddlies in random places.

I can't remember the name of the app - but it's just a laser dot that moves around the screen like you would do it, but there is no hand. Quick Google should be able to tell you Smile

One of my cats loves the laser for about 20 seconds, but only once a week. Other cats pay it no attn.

Ribbon face is magnificent. Mine loves a laser pointer for what it's worth. And Flying Frenzy. She utterly failed to kill a moth last night despite all her training.

cuntinghomicidalcardigan · 13/07/2016 15:58

Love the ribbon face. I used to have a laser pointer keyring and every time my keys jangled my dog would freeze and stare at the floor looking for the dot. It was a fantastic training tool, she understood the command 'freeze' and wouldn't budge until she was released... or she saw the red dot Smile

All three of ours go nuts over the laser pointer.

Girl cat 1 is hilarious though, she tries to pick it up with her paw, curls her paw up, looks in amazement at her empty paw and then pounces on the dot again. It's wonderful entertainment!!

Boy cat has a mouse which is made of sisal and it's HIS. He flicks it round the room and rabbit kicks it to death. He also kills the rugs.

Girl cat 2 is a bit dense (I'm being kind here). She is also rather rotund and can't jump up on things like the other. Watching her trying to get on the windowledge to kill a fly is amusing in itself, although she then does a 'fat meerkat' impression sitting up on her back legs.

Ribbon face is my favourite thing of ALL TIME. Please make an IG accoubt full of #ribbonface

Is it normal for cats to like raspberries blown on their bellies?

Only if you want your face ripped off

hollinhurst84 · 13/07/2016 16:35

He already has a Facebook page! Grin
And he likes raspberries on his belly too

OnesieTheQueensSelfie · 13/07/2016 17:19

Well, she's been playing with the pointer today (which is shaped like a mouse) so not a total dud after all. It's like the time I bought a fancy rail thing for her and she was more interested in the box it came in... Hmm

Phew, glad to know there are others that blow raspberries on their cats tummies! BlushGrin

I have three cats and they all go crazy for lazer pens.

Love the OMG ribbon face ha ha

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/07/2016 17:43

I have been laughing out loud at these pictures, love your cat Hollinhurst. One of mine is underwhelmed by laser pointers, they are both underwhelmed by ribbons etc on rods. They are sooo laid back.

My late cat loved playing with the plastic that holds 4 cans of lager together. He used to find them on the street and bring them home to play with. It was only when he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that he decided he wanted to play with squeaky mice, birds and bouncy toys.

sashh · 15/07/2016 11:16

The first time I tried the pointer with mine she walked up to me and tapped the side of the pointer.

I can now get her to play sometimes, but only sometimes. Current favorite toy - moths.
