Can anyone offer any suggestions on how my cat got out a locked cat flap?

My cat isn't let out at night, so the cat flap either gets put on 'in only' or is completely locked in the evening depending on whether FoxesCat is in or out.

I woke about 5.30 this morning and FoxesCat was at the end of my bed; he jumped off when I woke up and went down stairs. This isn't a strange occurance abd at times he'd go down eat and then sleep sgain. Other times he'd miaow and if it's light out I'd let him out well trained

Well this morning i hear after a while (less than 5 minutes I'd guess) the cat flap. At the time I thought 'huh? I thought I'd completely locked it completely - weird - evidently I forgot, I'm so sure I did though!'

Fell back to sleep woke again at 7.30; and thought straightway see well trained, first waking thought is cat'a welfare maybe I accidentally put in on 'out only'.

Heard the click of the cat flap (it's a Sure Flap) but no opening went down stairs immediately as all well behaved slaves should and there he was looking him. I figured 'yep I put it on 'in only'. Hadn't though it was completely locked. Opened it and let him in.

I even tried relocking it, pressing the little button down (the one the microchip releases) and pushing the flap but it was locked.

Any suggestions?

How does it lock? If it just has those little red swivelly bits to hold the door, they can easily unlock, or move enough to allow a cat through. One of my toms, particularly rotund in stature, is always sent through first to open it up for the others (or was, until we invested in a better, properly lockable one!)

Neighbours cat gets her claw underneath the clear perspex bit and pulls the door towards her, opening it and gets out when it's on ' in only'.

We only found out because I saw her cat out at 3am.. Couldn't understand it, then one day she saw her do it.

Nothing can outwit a cat

Ours can open if it its on 'in only'. He lifts it with his claws, gets us other paw under then slithers out.

It was on locked both ways.

Our cat can open a Sureflap catflap set on "in only" in seconds, and he can also open one set on "locked" but it takes him a bit longer.

Our other cat can't work it out though, nor could our previous cats.

One of mine can open a flap set to "in only".

I think if you contact Sureflap they'll modify it for you, so he can't hook it open.

Oh this has made me miss my cats! We lost them both last year and some of them was a total Houdini and could get out of the sure flap in seconds! Not locked both ways though - are you 100% sure he went out of the cat flap and not a window?

Well it's not quite as exciting as it seems. Got woken up by a paw pat this morning at 5.30 am (yes FoxesCat I'm loving you early need to go outside) as got up so very well trained musing it was a shame he didn't Houdini his way out again.

Anyway come the sensible hour of waking I repeated my muse to DS1 would the looked all coy and said he thought he knew how FoxesCat did it. Not exactly rocket science; it seem DS1 pushed the flap open the put it on to lock, so that when he released the flap it didn't actually close fully so cat could get out no bother.

Harrumph.
