Is it possible for a cat to be intolerant to wet meat?

Poor tootsie is not doing well with wet food despite loving it and wolfing it down three times a day.

We tried her in natures menu to begin with. I was expecting an upset tummy to begin with due to change of food but she had gas so toxic she could clear a room and diarrhoea lasting nearly two weeks. She also had quite a swollen tummy.

On the advice of the pet shop, I stopped the wet food and gave her Royal canin mother and baby dry food biscuits. I watered down some biscuits three times a day to become a paste and that was her wet food as such for about three days. The change was almost immediate. No gas, solid poo and a nice flat tummy.

I thought at first that natures menu was probably too rich so sourced one with a lower meat content. Hi life. She's had that for two days now and has had a worse reaction! She's been throwing up and violent diarrhoea! So today I've stopped the wet food and putting her back on the dry with the paste three times a day.

Could it be she is just intolerant of wet food?

Gosh - that beats me, I'm afraid. Especially given that she didn't react well to Nature's Menu which is pretty well free of the possible irritants. Maybe another poster has a thought.

You said she 'wolfed' it down. How much was she eating and how quickly did she eat it?

She had about 1/3 of a pouch, so one pouch did three meals, and she ate it quickly but not in an alarming quick. Just I am enjoying my food quick

By the way, has she been vetted recently? (Just on general principle.)

PS - how is she with actual wet meat? (If she's tried it.)

Not yet she hasn't no. Planning on getting her booked in the next week or so.
She has been flea'd and recently wormed by me so I know it's not a worming or fleaing issue but I will get her properly checked with the vet. She needs to go in her her jabs anyway

Fine actually I think. She's had a small bit of beef and a little bit of chicken and I'm pretty sure she was ok. I am going to look into a raw diet for her to see if that does anything

Natures menu pouches? They're still only 70% meat. Meat is not "too rich", which is why she has a worse reaction with lower content.

Try thrive tins, they're 100% meat. My dodgy stomached one is fine with those. I recently switched to cosma tins as theyre cheaper, and theyre fine too.

Is she getting the right amount of deflea agent for her weight? Fat cats (most cats are fat) need more deflea stuff than smaller cats.

I think I would go all scientific about it. Get her totally settled on the reliable dry food. And then one meal a week at a time introduce other stuff to try to isolate the problem (if there is one) in the wet food.

Oh yes re de flea. She's only a baby. Can't really go wrong with her flea treatment.

We are going to keep her on the dry now and order some Thrive which will take a few days to get here I should think. If she is ok and but then reacts to that, I guess we will have to accept I have a cat who is awkward..

I had a dog who was awkward.

He couldn't tolerate rice, chicken, beef or pork. He was also a bit funny about wheat. He could only have fish4dogs dog food which cost a fortune. I was hoping for a nice and easy animal to feed after that....guess not

It depends on the Nature's Menu, Micah. My own lad is on the NM Country Hunter which is 96% meat.

One of my cats wont' eat anything except Purina One dry food. That's all she eats and I've tried so many varieties of wet food. She won't look at raw or cooked chicken, won't eat Dreamies. Just bloody biscuits. She's fine though, although slightly podgy but I just can't tempt her with anything else.
