My cat lost its leg

She was fine at around 9am this morning.

Then at about 11.30 my 3 year old ds noticed she was in the kitchen, lying very still and asked me why she was wet.

I went over and saw her right leg was missing from the shoulder. No blood at all. My poor poor girl. ShockShockShockSad

I yelled for h and we got her to vet asap. He said he's never seen such a clean slicing off like this - straight through the humerous - and that it's very dirty. He said injuries from cars usually result in shattered bone. She has wounds on her tongue and a bit of a bashed face.

She drugged up to the eyeballs so they can clean the wound and operate.

I just can't think how she lost her leg so cleanly. I looked on the road and found her broken collar with a bent identity disc.

We've not had her very long and she wasn't insured. We just didn't get round to it. Fools. She is insured now but it's going to cost us £1k for the poor lady's treatment.

What a crap thing to happen.

She came out! So pleased. She's clearly hungry.

Aw! Little thing! So glad she's ok!

msrisotto · 07/05/2016 06:46

Yay! I'm so relieved, you must be very happy! What on earth was she doing hiding for so long?! These bloody cats. They'll be the death of us.

Vinorosso74 · 07/05/2016 08:02

Phew. They do enjoy making us humans worry!

cozietoesie · 07/05/2016 08:14

Thank Goodness. I was actually quite worried about her, just having gone through a major op and all.

Shall you be blocking access to the underfloor domain? (At least for the duration.)

timtam23 · 07/05/2016 11:40

Aw look at her! So glad she came out Smile

HRHinthroughtheoutdoor · 08/05/2016 08:58

Happy that she came out. I went looking for your thread because I was worried.
Bloody cats.

winkywinkola · 08/05/2016 10:59

Well she's sill hiding. She won't let me near her again. She comes out a bit, hoofs down some food and disappears again. She is clearly very very traumatised and needs time to develop trust and confidence again.

My poor girl.

Poor lass. Did you manage to administer her meds?

cozietoesie · 08/05/2016 11:19

Shall you be letting her be a housecat for at least a while?

msrisotto · 08/05/2016 12:53

Bless her. I'd block up the hidey holes that you couldn't reach into if necessary but generally leave her to hide somewhere safe. Apart from giving her meds, food and water. According to Jackson Galaxy (tv cat behaviorist), they gain confidence through play killing toys in open public spaces like the middle of the living room.

pennygoodlife · 08/05/2016 15:56

Brave brave little thing. Sending her lots of positive thoughts X

Mrsmorton · 08/05/2016 16:10

My dogs won't have anything to do with each other if one of them has had an operation. They wait til the other one is asleep then go and sniff them and move off. V strange.

Get well soon cat!

Papergirl1968 · 16/05/2016 19:00

How is she, winky?

winkywinkola · 17/05/2016 18:56

She's doing really well. She's managing just fine on three legs. All healed. She's nervous though and startles easily. Very affectionate and likes to curl up with us at every opportunity.

Her sister still isn't keen though. I'm hoping that will improve. Sad

I'm so pleased she's improving after that ordeal. (Quite an ordeal for you and the rest of the family as well.)

Papergirl1968 · 17/05/2016 22:23

Really pleased to hear that. Hopefully she will gain her confidence back. Poor kitty has been through an awful ordeal. Hope her sister comes round in time.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2016 22:31

Her whole demeanour sounds to have changed so to her sister she will likely be 'known-but-not-known' all at the same time. As long as the other cat isn't actually being mean to her, it should shake down.

ProfessorPickles · 17/05/2016 22:41

I really hope your cat will be feeling better soon OP, what an awful shock it must be for your loved pet to lose a limb!
I've never had a cat, but when my dog was severely ill it was horrendous to see her suffering.
I wish you all the best and I look forward to seeing more posts from you as she recovers Flowers

BirthdayBetty · 17/05/2016 22:44

Glad to hear she's doing well, hopefully her sister will settle down soon.

cozietoesie · 19/06/2016 20:35

How is she doing, winky?
