My cat lost its leg

winkywinkola · 30/04/2016 17:16

She was fine at around 9am this morning.

Then at about 11.30 my 3 year old ds noticed she was in the kitchen, lying very still and asked me why she was wet.

I went over and saw her right leg was missing from the shoulder. No blood at all. My poor poor girl. ShockShockShockSad

I yelled for h and we got her to vet asap. He said he's never seen such a clean slicing off like this - straight through the humerous - and that it's very dirty. He said injuries from cars usually result in shattered bone. She has wounds on her tongue and a bit of a bashed face.

She drugged up to the eyeballs so they can clean the wound and operate.

I just can't think how she lost her leg so cleanly. I looked on the road and found her broken collar with a bent identity disc.

We've not had her very long and she wasn't insured. We just didn't get round to it. Fools. She is insured now but it's going to cost us £1k for the poor lady's treatment.

What a crap thing to happen.

How did she get on?

surbiton1961 · 03/05/2016 03:41

I just wanted to say, cozietoesie even though I'm not a cat owner (with not much prospect of having one (sad face)), I love reading all your thoughtful comments on people's posts.

QOD · 03/05/2016 03:58

Oh poor pussy! Amazing That she got home

Keep us posted Flowers

Bizarrely I found a severed cats leg in my garden a few years ago.Sad never found out the whys and wherefores.

winkywinkola · 03/05/2016 10:30

She's coming home today! I pick her up at 1.45pm.

The vet said she's being playful, affectionate and really quite content. I'm delighted for such a positive outcome. I thought she'd had it.

What a trooper. What a great vet.

But what a bill! She's insured now. Gosh, that's really taught me to get admin jobs done asap.

I will put a pic when she's home.

Thank you for all your kind hearted words.

Brilliant she's recovering so well! Am sure she'll be even happier at home. Cats are quite resilient creatures.

Firstmum24 · 03/05/2016 10:48

Hoping for a quick recovery for you wee one. For what it is worth our family cat lost his leg when he was about 1 year old. He is now 18 years old and still winds the dog up!
Hugs to you and family though what an awful thing to happen. Fingers crossed CakeFlowers

cozietoesie · 03/05/2016 10:51

I'm so glad she pulled through.

Have you food treats planned for her tonight? Smile

HRHandIamfunky · 03/05/2016 10:53

Glad to hear she's on the mend after such an awful accident.

Oh winky have just stumbled upon this thread, your poor cat, what a shock for you all! I'm glad the vets have managed to sort her out.

In regards to how she was injured, I hate to say this but when you said you were rural and the injury was a 'clean' cut made me think a bear trap type thing. Not sure if it's worth mentioning to the vet/police as obviously if there are traps lying about the place god only knows what other animals could lose limbs or even a person stepping on it!

MimsyBorogroves · 03/05/2016 11:29

So glad she has pulled through, OP.

winkywinkola · 03/05/2016 16:26

My word. She's fast. Seems completely uninhibited by her lack of leg! She's pretty high on painkillers too.

Jesus. Have only seen seen your op. Sooo pleased she is ok winky, poor baby. Lots of cuddles for your little trooper! She's one hell of a fighter!

cozietoesie · 03/05/2016 16:35

Poor lass. What a trooper though.

Do you have more pain killers to give her at home? That was some ordeal for her.

msrisotto · 03/05/2016 16:52

Oh my god, i've just seen this! I'm in shock! You and she must be reeling! Gosh I wonder what could have happened....is it ploughing season?

PurpleRibbons · 03/05/2016 16:55

Oh my goodness, what a terrible shock. I hope she is ok. I wonder what happened to her, poor thing.

winkywinkola · 03/05/2016 17:28

Yes. Lots of painkillers. Bone pain is hideous apparently. And a big course of antibiotics.

cozietoesie · 03/05/2016 17:31

Excellent.

(And I imagine that the vet had a stiff whisky once surgery was over as well.)

Pipbin · 03/05/2016 17:33

Poor poor baby. It makes my blood run cold.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 03/05/2016 18:31

Ah glad she's back home, she's a beautiful girl and what a fighter, give her an extra gentle cuddle from me please Smile

HRHandIamfunky · 03/05/2016 19:23

I love tabby's. She seems quite perky considering what she's been through today

Vinorosso74 · 03/05/2016 19:35

What a pretty cat she is. She looks quite relaxed considering what she's been through.

RoosterCogburn · 03/05/2016 20:26

Bless her - what an awful thing to have happened.
You must be so relieved to have her home.

summerblues · 03/05/2016 21:46
