Young bony cat. Is she just a skinny malinkey? Pics included.

She's always been pretty skinny. She was a rescue cat and was a bit virus-y when we first got her (kind of non specific, brought on by stress and made her third eyelids prominent for a couple of weeks). She's about 1.5 years. She eats OK although has been a bit fussy recently. She feels very slim and slightly bony in areas like her backbone and breast bone. But she's active and asking for food a lot just doesn't eat a lot in one sitting. It probably doesn't help I'm comparing her with my other portly cat (got them together although they're not siblings). I've only ever had chunky cats so having this little slim puss is different. She is a very small cat too. Does she look OK?

She looks OK to me although I'm used to Siamese who are long legged and often 'elegant' at the best of times. What weight is she - and has the vet expressed any thoughts if she's been there recently?

PS - do you have any idea about her history and in particular her breeding? (Sometimes rescues are aware of it.)

She's not been weighed recently - last time was at vaccs last June (I think) when the vet commented that her weight was OK but he wouldn't want her to lose any. I think she did lose a bit recently when she'd got fussy but I've made an effort to feed her up a bit. She's just a tiny little dot when she's curled up to sleep as well - see remote control to give an idea of how teeny she is!

She looks very much like my cat in size - people often think she's a kitten, but she's about 16 (we got her as a rescue cat, age always a bit uncertain!). She eats about a sachet of wet food and 2 handfuls of dry per day and weighs about 2.8kg. Vets have never been bothered about her size, they seem to prefer her on the slim side. Health-wise she has had quite a few issues, but I don't think these are related to her size. I'd just keep your cat's bowls topped up all the time to see if you can put a little bit more on her, but with our cat, she would never eat more than she wanted!

2.8 kg rings a bell, I think she was around that mark when she was weighed at first vaccs!

Does she get much exercise? (I think that the only thing I'd like is maybe to see a little more muscle on those back legs and lower back.)

She's sleeps a lot to be honest, in common with many cats I suppose! She does go outside regularly and is quite territorial.

One of my cats never got above 2.3kg. She was always given a clean bill of health at her annual check ups and the vets decided that it was just her build. I think as long as you have regular full health check ups she'll be fine.

She certainly is beautiful - and she's only, what, 1.5? She could well have some filling out to do. (And be a naturally smallish cat as well.)

As Milk said, regular vet checks - as I'm sure you would do in any case - and she'll likely be just fine.

She looks pretty small all over. I don't think she looks out of proportion.
My cat was 2 in Feb and is really long but very skinny. The pictures don't show how thin he is tbh.
The vet told me he was perfectly healthy and most cats he sees now are overweight

I have a very similar cat and although he is only 8 months he he very much the most slender cat I have had. His mother was very petite.

He is currently 3.4kg and does have a poorly leg with not as much muscle as his other leg
