Best dry food for hairballs?

One of my two is the queen of hairballs - she doesn't seem to shed as much as her sister and so I guess must just lick it all off and eat it. But she's also not very good at throwing it up, so ends up getting blocked and very uncomfortable.

We used to use the Royal Canin Hairball Extreme (which was a pretty good description of what goes on in our house) but horror of horrors, they don't make it any more. Is there anything else that works like that?

We do have something called Laxacat, which is basically chicken flavoured paraffin, which does help, but I'd rather do as much as we can with the food as she'd not a fan of having it shoved down her throat. Any advice much appreciated.

Have you tried their Intense Hairball? In fact, is it possibly a rebranding?

Oh - and what do you do in the way of grooming? That can help enormously if carried out effectively.

It's the Intense Hairball 34 that we used to use, but that's discontinued and no longer on their website. I ordered it online, where it was shown on one of the big stores, and got something else instead, and it turns out that's the replacement. If anyone knows of stocks of Intense Hairball 34, I'll pay good money for it!

In the way of cats, Mrs Not-So-Hairball is happy to be groomed, but Mrs Hairball regards it as one of the tortures of the universe, so it's a two person job, and so doesn't get done as often as it might. Perhaps we'll have to try harder.

Maybe try the ordinary RC Hairball Care - still around as far as I can see - combined with increased grooming? You don't say, if I recall, how old they are but having them accustomed to regular grooming might help you enormously as they age and aren't so good at their grooming themselves.

My own old boy had never been groomed in his life when he came to me but I now groom him pretty well every evening because he's too stiff (arthritis) to do anything apart from his 'personal grooming' - and he loves it. All that attention and - as it's done so often - there are no snags or mats to annoy him. He hasn't had a hairball in years.

I'm sure other posters will be able to give you some tips for easy grooming.
