I love black cats. I love the way sometimes they look like four-legged holes in reality, and the way they disappear all except their eyes when sitting in a dark spot. It makes me really sad that they're so often the last to be adopted at rescue centres, because people are superstitious about them.

So I'm starting a black cat appreciation thread! I'll come back shortly on my phone and post some pictures of our black rescue boycat - please come and show me pictures of your own black cats or just random black cat pictures off the internet if you don't have one. Grin

Here's our lovely cat, Ticcy. She'll be 2 in July. A real character - she used to collect sticks, bring them into the house and present them to us! Once I came downstairs and found a trail of 5 sticks leading to the cat flap.

Thank you for the flowers, Rooster. A nice thought. I only found them this morning. Benjy is still at home with me, I had him cremated and he now lives in a dinky box on the bookcase and my neighbour who tried to save him by taking him to
her Vet has been bought an orchid plant, chocolates and cakes for the children and a new bath towel to replace the one she wrapped him in. The vet traced him to mr via his microchip, well worth the money. I saw him briefly. What shattered me was the fact his fur still gleamed like black satin.
RIP Benjy.

Ahhh, 6cats3gingerkittens there is a real beauty about black cats isn't there.
We have 5 cats, but DH and I often call each other to admire our Black cat. He may be an unsociable biting boy but he is stunning to look at.
I did feel honoured today when he let me stroke him while I held the pack of Dreamies as usually he wont tolerate it.

Benjy used to be known as snugglebum. He loved to tuck himself in next to me on the sofa, but always tucked his rear in firmly before cuddling down.
However, you can't call, "Snugglebum!" late at night can you?
His pretty grey furred sister still lives with me. They spent a week living in the garden shed before I brought them in. I have never regretted doing so.

My first cat Emma was a short haired black cat.
I got her when I had left home and I was 18.

She died when she had just turned 15, I found her on the dining room table on New Year's Day 6 years ago.
She was awesome, she was with me at all the important parts of my life, she was actually quite involved when I was in labour (still at home) with ds 1 as she wouldn't leave me alone.

I don't understand why they are overlooked so much.

They are all beautiful. I'd love to have a black cat and call him Severus Snape Wink. Can't at the moment as we have a dog but once he's gone (not that I want him to!) I'll work on cat-disliker DH and have my wish.

My all black cat is gorgeous, black with black stripes, and the 'talkiest' cat we've ever had. She's my no. 3 black cat and the first one to be all black (no 1 was black with white bib, no. 2 black with white socks). Black cats rule! (Actually, quite literally in their opinion Grin )

From the superstition point of view, I always understood that it was good luck to have a black cat cross your path (showed that the local witch favoured you, perhaps?). My nan would never have a cat that wasn't black - they were all called Blackie, too Confused .

We have an 8 month old boy rescue black cat. I couldn't resist him in the shelter. He was hissy and scratchy when we first got him at 3 months but he couldn't be any more affectionate now.

Here's my boy. He's 9 months old and is the most lovable and affectionate cat I have ever known. He can't be sat by you, he has to be sat in you and He has to have some part of his body touching yours. He also lets you do pretty much anything to him, hence the 'Dracucat Picture'
