Black Cat Appreciation Thread

I love black cats. I love the way sometimes they look like four-legged holes in reality, and the way they disappear all except their eyes when sitting in a dark spot. It makes me really sad that they're so often the last to be adopted at rescue centres, because people are superstitious about them.

So I'm starting a black cat appreciation thread! I'll come back shortly on my phone and post some pictures of our black rescue boycat - please come and show me pictures of your own black cats or just random black cat pictures off the internet if you don't have one.

This is Mack, my 5 year old rescue. Boxes are his favourite thing!

she doesn't photograph well though, as she never seems to be still for long enough to get a good shot

This is my lovely black boy. He is my shadow and I luffs him. We got him as a tiny kitten from a rescue. Black cats are the best!

I've found my people

Here's my babiest cat - now 6 months and found on a construction site at 4 weeks with his brother. Had them ever since then and they do not leave my side.

Black cat is the cutest, snuggliest, and most human cat ever.

My second black rescue cat - she'd been with the CPL for several months as nobody wanted a black cat.

We have one black and one white cat, rescued brother and sister. Never see the black hairs but the white ones go everywhere, especially on school uniform. Black cats are the slovenly owner's choice.

Why do people say black cats are so different to other cats? Mine are the only cats I've had so I'm curious to know what the difference is.

Usual - I'm DYING at your cat balanced precariously on a narrow radiator and ignoring the lovely comfy hanging cat bed right behind him

Roseberry - I can't say that I can see any special black cat personality traits. I just love them because they're a tiny bit spooky.

Here are my 2 stinkers. Most of the photos do tend to be from the 'black blob with 2 yellow eyes' school of imagery but they are the best cats ever! Completely different personalities (from the same litter) but both committed lap-cats. They are getting on now and I can't bear to think about them not being here.

Our boy will have been with us 2 years this weekend. He's so sleek and shiny and like a stealth cat. I love when he's at the window at night and he's just a pair of eyes. He was a rescue, he's so dignified and a little aloof but I like that in a cat.

He's the first black cat I've had.

I didn't even think about it but why are people out off them?

I want all these cats - Black Blobs Rule! We have dark grey sofas so the black hairs don't show... But it also means we're forever nearly sitting on the invisible cats

Here is our two year old rescue girl. We have had her for half a year. When we went to choose a cat at the rescue, we were surprised to hear that people did not want black cats. In my head they say in an ALI G voice: "Iz it because I iz black?". Seriously, though I think it's terrible. Our cat is the friendliest, least destructive cat I have ever met. Low maintenance and in many ways like a dog (frequently greets people on her hind legs and runs over when called, etc.).
