Does neutering change a male cats personality?

Probably a weird question, but my 6mo boy is coming up for being done, and he's such a sweetheart, so loving, velcro kitty.

i'm getting a little worried that having him done is going to a) make him upset with me so the cuddles stop or b) change his personality so the cuddles stop.

i wouldnt not get him done, because i am a responsible owner, i just wondered if anyone had noticed any changes?

In my own experience, if they're sweethearts before neutering, they'll stay sweethearts after it. Don't worry. Smile

I can't imagine it would. I think the only behaviours it would be likely to affect would be negative ones like spraying and roaming.

Missed the other point. We had our two girls spayed late last year. They were a bit quiet to start with but are actually now more loving than ever. (They can go out now and I think that makes them VERY happy!)

I was worried about this as well but my 8 month old kitten is exactly the same as he was before he was neutered. Just as cuddly and playful as he was.

I think Wolfie is right. Neutering will curb the 3 Fs in males. (Well maybe not the Feeding.)

Wolfiefan · 10/02/2016 21:34

Ha it certainly hasn't curbed the feeding in my girls!! Smile

I have a neutered male that's a complete Velcro cat if that helps
This is him giving me a hug in his favourite place on the sofa!

Had my boys done last month, they are still total Velcro cats.

They even have to come to the toilet with us.

Ahhh Squad I know the feeling Grin
If I shut the door he chats to me through it Hmm like having a toddler!

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/02/2016 21:44

They stay soppy, it doesn't seem to upset them too much.

Grin

great! thank you!

My girl cat is a 'cuddles on her terms' sort of cat, which means i get 5 minutes then she wanders off and ignores me disdainfully, until i leave the room, then she absolutely MUST come wherever i am..

Boycat is such a cuddler in comparison, its lovely as he's always curled up with me and purring like an engine, i'd miss it if he stopped!

Lol, i think girlcat thinks i've climbed out the bathroom window the way she shouts at me if i dare shut the door without letting her in with me!

Bogbastardkitten was a sweetheart before and after he lost his manhood. The only difference is a heightened suspicion of the vets which seemed reasonable Smile

cozietoesie · 10/02/2016 21:59

Also, they don't seem to associate their basic people with the op, going to the vet etc. Or if they do, they don't dwell on it.
