Oldcat won't eat naice food and felix makes him stink

He's old, estimated to be 12 when we adopted him 5 years ago. He only has two teeth, so relies on wet food. He loves felix/supermarket own brand jelly food. But the farts! And I know it isn't great for him. So we've tried all manner or better foods- wainwright's, purely etc. He just looks at me like "what is this shit".

Are there any good brands for weaning him off the cheap stuff?

I've tried weaning off the Felix with my own old boy (Doubly delicious AGAIL) to no avail for 2/3 years.

Have you tried Butcher's Classic? It's cheap-ish wet food that comes in tins and is gluten-free. It's been better for our old mog than Whiskas etc - he used to be a farty nightmare and is now quite ordinary.

We tried H on Felix when he first arrived. He loved it but sadly ended up having to go cold turkey as there was no way I was living with that litter tray in a one bed flat!

My cat LOVES Felix. It's like crack cocaine to him, but doesn't stink, so it's all good.

I foolish bought some Felix pouches in Costco and it's driving my cats crazy. It really is like crack for cats. I feed them and they are still going nuts for more. They even get the old packets out of the bin.

Have you tried wet food with gravy rather than jelly? My last oldie had terrible trouble with jelly but was fine with gravy. Its hard to find gravy based food though, jelly seems to be taking over. Both my cats only really like Felix and since both of them are on their last legs its not worth upsetting them. he looks adorable, by the way.

My own boy has the whip hand over me on this one. Being a (very old) Siamese, he's perfectly capable of doing the whole 'Death, where is thy sting?' thing if I were to attempt to give him different food and I need him to eat and take his meds. I still rigidly enforce the few house rules but for the rest? You pick your battles.

(And it doesn't give his innards any trouble it seems.)

Thanks. I might try butcher's. He doesn't like gravy, only jelly. I think the reason he doesn't like the nicer brands is because of the lack of jelly. Sometimes he just eats all the jelly and comes back later for the meat. But he goes on a form of hunger strike when we try any nice food. He also loves Aldi senior food (also cheap and probably full of crap).

He is very old, he must be approaching 20 if they were right with their estimate when he was found. He was in a right old state, covered in lice, matted hair (he's long haired) and rotten teeth.
