Please tell me being in heat doesn't last long?!

We've just got a new cat who hasn't been neutured as she's still underweight from her previous owners.

Of course, she's now yowling like a crazy woman, running around the house and doing this weird rolling thing everywhere.

How long is this going to last, and how often will this happen over the next four weeks?!

long enough that you won't forget it. Is she a good eater?.

Do you have any neutered males in the house? Our old boy used to mount the retired queen and get thrown off when she realised there was no lead in his pencil.

No other cats in the house but I imagine there's plenty wandering past

She's a good eater so fingers crossed when we go to the vets next weekend they'll make plans to do it!

I didn't really fancy my Saturday night playing Scrabble, drinking wine and... Watching a cat hump the air...

Oh yes you might get a few hopeful toms spraying the house. Nice.

Oh, well that's a lovely thought...

She's so loud! This is not really endearing her to DP who was in two minds anyway

I can imagine. It's temporary. You won't hear it again once she's been spayed.

Whatever you do, keep her in! We had a young cat who came into heat before she'd been neutered and she bashed the whole cat flap out of its frame and escaped.

Oh, she's in alright! She's had two litters in the past few months and all the kittens died so we're not letting her out for love nor money!

At this rate I'll be begging the vet to have her neutered as soon as possible!

Its a shame as it's made her less cuddly, and we were just settling into each other.

Zara's lasted about 4 days, when she was too small to neuter. She yowled the house down, rolled on her back, rubbed herself all over everything....eventually my neutered male mounted her and made some vague half hearted gestures in the right direction, looking totally confused the whole time. It didn't help.

Four days gives me hope, we're on day three here

Our little girl cat had the op - and it failed. Not straight away, but about ten months later.We had three consecutive weeks of yowling and rolling, trying desperately to keep her inside because although she couldn't have kittens I didn't want to risk her running so far in search of a tom that she wouldn't be able to find her way home. it's on my mind today as the vet has just given her an implant, which will hopefully stop it happening in the future. It had better work, she's so unhappy with the hormone merrygoround.

Mine lasted 4 days. Well 4 bad days and a couple of occasional yowls.

The 4 days included the memorable time she put her tail to one side and backed up to a male human friend turning her head in a rather coquettish way and mewing at him.

I swear she battered her eye lashes.

He was quite disturbed.

Noo, don't tell me that it can fail!! Sorry to hear that though, poor girl.

It is disturbing, isn't it, sashh? We were having a lovely stroke the other night and then the bum started coming up....

She seemed a little quieter yesterday evening so fingers crossed. Can't tell you how desperately I want her to be the right weight for the op sometime soon!

Before my rescue female cat was spayed she came into season and used to follow my brother around constantly, and backed into him many times he was quite disturbed! The spaying doesn't fail as in she can get pregnant once spayed, but even if 1 microscopic ovarian cell is left behind it can release hormones making her still act like she's in season
