Does anyone have experience of a diabetic cat?

Our 6 year old cat has just been diagnosed with diabetes. We'd noticed one of the litter trays was becoming quite full of wee and the water going down quicker, and eventually caught this particular cat in the act (we have a few so it wasn't easy!)
We suspected diabetes, and she has a urine test last week and it turned out to be high in glucose - and the vet has called today to say her blood results are back and it confirms what we suspected.

So I'm taking her this evening for her first insulin injection - then again tomorrow for a masterclass in injecting cats (I hope she doesn't hate me too much!)

Does anyone else have any experience with feline diabetes? Just wondering what to expect as this is all new.

Hopefully your vet will offer you the veteran to injection you dial up the dose insert the tiny needle through the skin and press the button to deliver the dose. The cat majority of cats never notice the injecting particularly when if you give while they are eating.

Not me directly but our upstairs neighbour has a diabetic cat. He's been injecting her for quite a few years now and he says the injections are easier than giving her the thyroid tablets which she also has now! He has to take her to vets for a check up every so often and she doesn't look bad for 18 tho they think her sight and hearing may be starting to go.

Sight and hearing could start to fail in any cat of 18. She's doing well.

Yes cozie apparently the vets are quite happy with her. Our neighbour wasn't impressedoing when she got out and got herself stuck on the roof of our lean to the other week!

Ours had her first lot of insulin this evening - the vet did the first one and showed me how to do it, and tomorrow morning I'm going to have a go with the vet watching and advising.

She didn't seem at all bothered! :) It was a normal syringe but the vet said it was an extra thin needle.

My first cat injecting attempt seemed to go well - she didn't flinch and rubbed against my hand afterwards.
