7 year old cat keeps peeing and poo-ing in my hallway. Driving me mad!

I have a 7 year old Maine Coone cat, she is not in best of health and now has limited use of rear legs. I got a litter tray so she could wee and poo in that to save her going out through the cat flap, the other cats use it (I have three) but she just pisses on the hallway floor. So bloody infuriating. I have no clue what to do! I clean up, spray anti pissing stuff on the floor but she goes back and does it there every day! I am losing patience with it as I do not know how to conquer it or get her to either use the cat flap (which she always used to) or pee in the litter tray!

She can't manage to get in the tray or use the cat flap then. Is that any quality of life for a cat? They're such naturally clean animals.

also standard advice for litter trays is one per cat, plus one. AND she may not like the litter....my girl cat will only use the pink gravelly non clumping....anything else and she takes to the hand basin or shower tray.

We have a Maine Coon (house cat), he is now near his end of days - approaching 15 years old and pees/poos almost exclusively in the hallway, despite having 2 cat litter trays. Although, he has always been prone to doing his business where he should not, it became much worse over the years once he reached adulthood. And he is neutered.

I honestly think that because this breed are so playful and intelligent they are more predisposed to being neurotic and anxious, and this is what causes it. If I were to predict the future I would say your cat's behaviour probably won't change. We have tried everything, numerous cat trays, feliway, or whatever it is called, anti anxiety drops. Everything helps for a short time, but then it seems to lose its effect. Because ours is very elderly we're just doing our best to clean up after him (puppy training pads are good), unless his quality of life becomes very poor. He is otherwise fairly content.

Great idea about puppy training pads PatSharp. I hadnt considered that. It would certainly save my floorboards getting saturated and as she seems dead set on going there I guess it would alleviate a lot of stress for me. Just don't want the other cats pissing there too!
