Going to adopt rescue cat for first time

Squee! DH has finally agreed to adopting a rescue cat after building work is finished on our extension . I think we are looking for a cat not a kitten and want a tolerant, friendly soul who likes a good stroke. Any tips to help me pick? Which sanctuaries are good? One cat versus a pair? Obvs its a 15-20 year commitment so I want to get the match right! but still stupidly excited

Not yet. Have a couple of months wait until building is over. What's CHAT?

Oh you mean Celia Hammond? Sorry being dim. Funny, I was just looking at their website and this beautiful boy jumped off the page at me www.celiahammond.org/lewisham/index.php/cats-seeking/lewisham-london/10-cats-seeking-homes/353-penfold

One of the regular posters on this boards is a CHAT volunteer and has given many posters and cats invaluable help. Smile

Not sure how far east you are but Katz Castle is in Surrey.

Oh thanks cozie! Do you happen to know her name? I know they are great - I called them when a cat had kittens in a thornbush outside my old block of flats. It was a bitterly cold night and we spent hours trying to tempt them out with treats! They are good people.

Thanks also Wolfie. I hadn't come across them before

TCN, ovelot41. (thecatneuterer)

Sadly, she had an unfortunate incident recently and hasn't been posting as much. They're definitely good people though.

Would a rescue give me 4 cats?

I had 4 but they've all died (of very old age) over the last 2 years.

When I start again (I'm not ready yet) I want 4 again.

0 to 4 in a oner is a big ask, I think. Have you thought about fostering, though? Kitten season is nearly on us.

Really couldn't foster - would never give them back Grin

I figured that some rescues would have 4 already together or two two's that are getting on ok.

All my others were 'rescues'. Abandoned/friends who didn't want them - just none from a proper rescue

A very handsome cat! Smile

Lots of 'twos' on the CHAT site, Laurie. How about starting with a pair and see how it goes? Smile

Just a quick update. Thanks for the CHAT recommendation folks - we have our home visit booked in for next week. I hope we are deemed worthy!

There was a lovely little black cat who was very keen to have a good natter to me when I was in. Keep thinking about her...
