Cat spending new years eve at the vets :(

Hello all

I have been a regular reader of these pages since adopting my kitty from Cats Protection just over a year ago and have always found all your advice very helpful!

My little chap has always been very healthy (he's just over 1 year) but I took him into the vets today because he hadn't eaten anything for 24 hours and was very sleepy and listless. They have run some blood tests and he has an bad infection of some sort but they aren't sure where as there is nothing visible, so he is on antibiotics and fluids and spending the night at the vets.

Just looking for any words of advice / reassurance as I am really worried about him. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Not as bad as that but they bounce back remarkably well & he's a young cat still.

They'll take good care of him tonight.

Coincidentally, one New Year's Eve about 12 years ago I had to rush my boycat to the vet twice...after the 2nd visit they kept him in. Sounds similar to your boy, very listless, not eating, he ended up disappearing and I had to search for him then drag him out from under my shed...I was so worried about him but very fortunately after a few days he recovered well, it was a mystery infection in the end. He was about 5 or 6 and lived to 18 so no lasting damage done. Fingers & paws crossed here for your boy.

I have heard from the vet and he is doing much better this morning and is responding to treatment, he should be able to come home tomorrow.

Aww I feel for you op. My dog-who is my best wee friend had an unexpected knee operation yesterday. The vet is lovely and has called to say that she is well but I can't get her until 5pm as he wants her to have as much pain relief as possible. Its daft...but I missed her last night!! Hope your cat is back home and well as soon as possible.

How's he doing now? Did they figure out what it was?

He is home now, we collected him yesterday morning and he seems to be getting back to his usual perky self. It was a mystery internal infection but they aren't sure where or what could have caused it. Luckily he responded to antibiotics and fluids and started eating again so he's well on the road to recovery

My old boy sleeps in bed with me so that's the equivalent of paw touches in the night. They want the contact.
