Aaaw how exciting!! Pictures please? Do you have a name yet? I am jealous.

PestoSwimissimos · 21/09/2015 12:25

No pics yet, but will as soon as I can. He's a grumpy middle aged boy called Oska - white. Poor thing was taken to the shelter over 4 months ago as his place in the home was overtaken by a new baby Sad

Smile

He sounds great! (Grumpy middle-aged boys are often the biggest secret lovebugs going in my experience.)

I just hope our 2.5 year old ex-rescue cat Hamish will gradually come to accept him. I shall keep them separate from each other at first, as advised by the Rescue lady. Any other tips/suggestions welcome!

Give him somewhere quiet at first. I put new cats in with ds2 with a litter tray, food, water and a bed. They can get their bearings and have peace and quiet.

Get a Feliway Diffuser - they're much cheaper via eBay.

They often hide out for the first few days, so just give him space.

Don't worry about initial aggression or upset from your established cat. It's normal and just because he'll feel a bit threatened by a newcomer entering his territory.

Provide lots of Dreamies for both cats. It's puts them into a happy mood. Catnip too if they like it.

Get some Dr Stuart's nighttime teabags from the supermarket. It has valerian in which cats love and it's a relaxant. I just give them the little envelope and use the teabag to make tea. They suck and shred the envelope and become playful and relaxed. Mine have never tried to eat the paper, but obviously you can remove it if that were to happen.

Give lots of extra love to Hamish and play some games to make sure he doesn't feel left out.

Enjoy your new kitty Smile

Our grumpy 3 year old rescue turned out to be utterly loving and a big softy. It turns out he was grumpy about being in the shelter having been kicked out of his nice home, much like yours was Sad

He may surprise you when he get back to your place!

Thank you both for your advice, I couldn't see it yesterday due to Mumsnet being down. Anyhooo, PestoCat2 has a huge bedroom & office to himself plus an en-suite Grin PestoCat1 knows he is here, and they've seen each other, but neither of them seems bothered!
It has been tricky trying to get photos as our new cat is soooo loving and playful and hardly stops moving. But here is one of him tucking in! And another of him looking a bit grumpy!

Aw he looks right at home there!

JeffsanArsehole · 22/09/2015 08:13

He's so snuggly looking, he's settled in so well

PestoSwimissimos · 22/09/2015 09:13

Thank you, he's just so loving & cuddly. When I am sat at my desk he comes sits behind me on the office chair purring. If that's not enough, he then proceeds to walk all over my desk! Love him!!

He's gorgeous!

I have a white cat too. He was a stray rather than a proper rescue cat. Here he is:
