She wasn't doing this last night it has only been since she went out this morning.
I have checked her out and can't see any obvious stings, although she is long haired black cat so it's not easy!

Could this be fleas? Or something else? I'm off to get flea treatment anyway because she is due. Anyone else's cats do this?

When it's fleas it's not normally so sudden. I really don't know. What sort of flea treatment are you going to get?

thecatneuterer · 25/05/2015 17:35

Do you have a flea comb to check for fleas?

Nellagain · 25/05/2015 17:39

I haven't got a flea comb no, although she does get groomed with a wire brush. It is a rather shaggy coat otherwise.

I was going to get front line. I know I've never known a cat run round with fleas suddenly either.
Do you think a tick is a possible candidate? They're difficult to see at first.

The only other thing I can think of is try to put her in a bath.
really don't relish doing that. She has 20 very long claws that attach to everything when she feels the need.
She has been doing a lot of hunting recently too.

God no, don't try to bath her! I don't think ticks cause that reaction either, but I'm not sure.

Don't get Frontline. It's lost its efficacy - fleas have gained resistance. Go for Advantage instead (which you can buy from a chemist). Or from a vets get Broadline or Stronghold. And while you're at it buy a flea comb so you can check.

If she's hunting has she been wormed recently?

Nellagain · 25/05/2015 18:32

Thanks cat Well I now have a flea comb and I'll leave the bath alone. No persuasion needed thereGrin

They only had bob martins in -so I didn't get that. I'll comb her toNight and get one of the treatment you mentioned tomorrow. She is due flea and worm treatment in any case.

I wonder if that's why front line is on all the groupon offers then?

Broadline contains the same flea treatment as Frontline. Great for worms on my cats (v easy applicator) but I follow it up later with Advantage for fleas.

RubbishMantra · 26/05/2015 17:38

Well that's interesting to know gobbin. I thought Broadline was being hailed as the new panacea.

thecatneuterer · 26/05/2015 17:44

Yes Rubbish - that's what Lonecat has said - and she's a vet.
