HELP CAT LOCKED IN EMPTY HOUSE

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 18:37

My sister's cat has been missing 3 days and we have just found him in an empty house on her street , neighbours don't know who owns the house and their is no way in or out without kicking the door in .

Have tried to get hold of the rspca but they won't help and their are no other charities I can think of up here (North West Coast) & the police aren't able to help (was just wanting to know who could help )was hoping for animal warden but they not open til Monday .

Have put some cat biscuits through the letter box but he is going berserk launching himself at the window

How on earth do we get him out

Smash a window?

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/05/2015 18:39

I'd smash a window but be prepared to pay for it to be fixed.

isseywithcats · 01/05/2015 18:41

might be worth contacting a locksmith to see if they could get you in without damaging the door will cost though or google the address and see if the house is on any estate agents lists other than those it would mean you breaking a window and then getting it replaced

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 18:42

Double Glazed n I'm not the strongest of people plus knowing my luck I'd be arrested

Hiring a lock Smith is also breaking and entering , else my DB would be in like a shot

Rspca will leave a cat to potentially starve to death in an empty house? Typical.

Is the house empty as in unoccupied? If so I would force entry rather than let the cat stay in there indefinitely.

How do you think the cat got in? Have you walked round to try to determine point of entry?

thecatneuterer · 01/05/2015 18:46

Definitely force entry one way or another. In the meantime pour water through the letter box as well as food. Water is even more important.

Where in the country are you?

FenellaFellorick · 01/05/2015 18:46

I meant to say I realise you are providing biscuits. I just hate the rspca. They don't give a shit.

It won't starve to death Fenella, it can be fed via the letterbox.

FenellaFellorick · 01/05/2015 18:48

Absolutely.
Cat needs water more than food.
Biscuits require drinking water.
Best to squeeze wet food through the letterbox.

The RSPCA have now said they will try and get somebody over the weekend to try and get him but this will require the police to help .
They won't do anything today as it's not an emergency and they are busy :s

Just spoke to a neighbour and the tenants left at the beginning of the week

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 01/05/2015 19:02

Put ice cubes through the letter box. As they melt slowly they are better at providing water than just pouring it through. Are you absolutely sure though that the cat has access to the letterbox?

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 19:03

Yeah the living room door is open

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 01/05/2015 19:03

Cats can live without food for weeks. Without water only for around three days. And if you've been putting dry food though that will dehydrate even more. Get those icecubes now.

HarrietVane99 · 01/05/2015 19:04

Do the neighbours by any chance know who the letting agents are? They might have a key. Might be worth ringing round local letting agencies in the morning, and asking if they handle the property.

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 19:06

Only just found him an hour ago and put food through about half hour ago , going to put some ice through now

Hobby2014 · 01/05/2015 19:07

How did the cat get in? Surely find the entry point to get cat out.
Or did it get in through an open door when tenants were there?
Check garden for back windows maybe? They might be open and unlocked but pushed closed?

Damnautocorrect · 01/05/2015 19:14

You can find out who owns a house for a few quid on the land registry website.

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 19:15

I'm guessing he got in while someone was their , no entry points already checked

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/05/2015 19:17

Police?. If they won't help ask to speak to the inspector.

They smash car windows to get dogs out.

Is the front door double glazed too?.

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 19:19

It's all double glazed , the police won't help , only if the rspca call them out

QOD · 01/05/2015 19:36

Poor pussy! The Police helped me rescue my mad cat from someone's locked car once ... tracked down the owner. They really cared
