HELP CAT LOCKED IN EMPTY HOUSE

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 18:37

My sister's cat has been missing 3 days and we have just found him in an empty house on her street , neighbours don't know who owns the house and their is no way in or out without kicking the door in .

Have tried to get hold of the rspca but they won't help and their are no other charities I can think of up here (North West Coast) & the police aren't able to help (was just wanting to know who could help )was hoping for animal warden but they not open til Monday .

Have put some cat biscuits through the letter box but he is going berserk launching himself at the window

How on earth do we get him out

Police will try & get somebody round in the next 48 hours as it's not an emergency & they told me not to break in as I'd be breaking the law Hmm

Well I wonder if they would come any quicker if you threatened to do it while on the phone to them.

Miltonmaid · 03/05/2015 17:50

If the police are being slow, I'd contact your local paper. With a bit of publicity the police will soon be round. Local papers love animal stories that then have a happy ending.

At least the poor cat is able to get food and water whilst in there. Very stressful for you though Sad

VanitasVanitatum · 03/05/2015 19:57

Look the house up on zoopla for an agent? X

abigamarone · 03/05/2015 20:16

the cat is sunbathing at the window
Typical cat - whilst you and your sister (and the internet) are worrying!

Hope it's sorted soon.

RandomMess · 03/05/2015 20:21

Yep Cat knows it has a source of food & water so will forgo strokes/attention for sunbathing! Tis all "me me me" with those creatures!

sunnydaylucy · 03/05/2015 20:22

This happened near to me last week. The RSPCA got the cat out (I don't know how though, I wasn't closely involved), with help from the estate agent (the house had just recently sold).

SurlyCue · 03/05/2015 20:26

Ooooh that house is going to stink! Hope you get him soon.

hiddenhome · 03/05/2015 21:10

I would have thought the police would be able to break a window because it's an animal welfare issue.

They've done it for dogs trapped in hot cars.

Nice to see that cats are equally valued Hmm

Mintyy · 03/05/2015 21:18

My mum's cat got trapped in a house for 5 or 6 days and survived.

However, I wouldn't hesitate to break in by tomorrow. As a pp has said, its okay to break a car window to rescue a dog, I can't see why it isn't ok to break a house window to rescue a cat.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 03/05/2015 21:29

This happened to our cat when I was young, he got into the abandoned house next door through an air brick thingy. We didn't find him for more than a week and he survived on dead pigeons. My mum smashed a window to get him out because no one would help.

I'm a police officer and I wouldn't arrest someone who broke a window to get ther cat out. If you do it and put a note with your name and number through the letterbox there would be absolutely no justification to arrest you. Keep a record of the cad numbers created when you called the police as well, will support your story if anyone complains which they're unlikely to do if the house is empty.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/05/2015 23:00

I wouldn't think twice about breaking a window to get the car out. The cat's welfare should be priority, not worrying about the consequences.

fenneltea · 04/05/2015 08:53

I'm another that would be breaking in to get the poor cat.

SuburbanRhonda · 04/05/2015 10:06

Surely it's not against the law to break a window to save the life of a living animal? Confused

LowryFan · 04/05/2015 10:56

Obviously the police can't say 'go ahead and break the window' or burglars would start using that as an excuse. However if you do just go ahead and break the window it's very very unlikely you'd be prosecuted for anything.

hodgepodgepanda · 04/05/2015 13:05

My brother managed to open a back window without breaking it & got the daft cat out .
Thanks everyone

That's a relief. I bet the house stinks though.

DidoTheDodo · 04/05/2015 19:08

Oh good news! Glad Kitty is out. Is he OK?

hiddenhome · 04/05/2015 22:12

Thank goodness for that. The people who next venture into the house are going to have a bit of cleaning to do though Shock

hodgepodgepanda · 04/05/2015 23:17

He only managed to get a small window open & called the cat who shot straight out of it , window isn't big enough for my Db to get through so can't clean up

hiddenhome · 05/05/2015 00:30

As long as kitty is okay, that's all that matters Smile

fenneltea · 05/05/2015 08:06

Glad to hear he's out Smile
