HELP CAT LOCKED IN EMPTY HOUSE

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 18:37

My sister's cat has been missing 3 days and we have just found him in an empty house on her street , neighbours don't know who owns the house and their is no way in or out without kicking the door in .

Have tried to get hold of the rspca but they won't help and their are no other charities I can think of up here (North West Coast) & the police aren't able to help (was just wanting to know who could help )was hoping for animal warden but they not open til Monday .

Have put some cat biscuits through the letter box but he is going berserk launching himself at the window

How on earth do we get him out

ice cubes fab idea, once he realises he's being fed and watered he will probably calm down and sleep for hours (as they do)

hoobypickypicky · 01/05/2015 19:49

A brick will break even a double glazed window. No, I'm not kidding. The cat's far more important than a bit of glass.

You're potentially looking at a cat whose been without water for three days or more, depending on when he got in. The longer he's been without fluid the more risk there is of organ damage and ultimately death. Thankfully you're giving him the ice cubes now, brilliant thinking too, but he needs out and if no-one else is prepared to do it then you need to.

If I can get to you I'm more than willing to break the window and take the consequences.

If it's owned by social landlord they will have keys.

MissingKittyCat · 01/05/2015 19:55

After the run of bad luck I've had with cats lately, if 100% smash a window and call a glazier.

Stress is going to damage a dehydrated cat.

RubbishMantra · 01/05/2015 20:38

Have a look on the property to let section on Rightmove. If it's empty, it's likely to be up for let already. Will give a a Landlord's direct number or the letting agent.

hodgepodgepanda · 01/05/2015 22:53

Sorry only just managed to get someone to give a crap .

Finally spoke to somebody nice at the RSPCA & they are coming in the morning with the police to break in , thanks everyone

Hope kitty is back home and non the worse for his adventure!!!

Pipbin · 02/05/2015 23:34

Is there an update? I would break a window and suffer the consequence.

hodgepodgepanda · 03/05/2015 09:10

Sorry only just got chance to come online .

They didn't turn up & it took me all day to get hold of somebody to find out why not & apparently it's on the system as been sorted Hmm so they won't send anybody else out .

A neighbour says that workmen are starting at the house on Monday so until then we are feeding the cat through the letterbox & the cat is sunbathing at the window , I wish we could break in but we can't as don't want to risk the trouble it would cause

Will they be working tomorrow as its bank holiday?

LowryFan · 03/05/2015 09:47

Actually I don't think breaking in would be illegal if you are intending to fix whatever you break. Off to google...

LowryFan · 03/05/2015 09:50

From reading wiki, as long as you think you'd be given permission to break in by the landlord, you can do it. I would.

Aridane · 03/05/2015 10:02

I would ask police to help, not the RSPCA

FenellaFellorick · 03/05/2015 10:21

I am sure the owner would prefer a broken window subsequently fixed by you to the piles of cat poo and wee that are getting bigger and bigger!
Not at all surprised by Rspca. This is typical of them.

thecatneuterer · 03/05/2015 10:23

Just break in. No one will press charges. If you really won't then squeeze sachets of food through the letterbox. Don't give dried at all

hodgepodgepanda · 03/05/2015 10:30

Have put cat food (meat) through & ice cubes

Psipsina · 03/05/2015 10:31

I don't suppose they have a cat flap anywhere (obvious question)

If you know the letting agent then you could try calling and they often have an emergency number on their answering machine. Council will have emergency number as well.

hodgepodgepanda · 03/05/2015 10:34

No cat flap & haven't a clue of the letting agent as no sign up

Psipsina · 03/05/2015 10:36

Have a quick look on rightmove perhaps? Sorry, it's a hassle, I'm trying to think what I would do. Sounds as though puss has calmed down a bit which is good news.

Follyfoot · 03/05/2015 10:36

I'd ring the police again, they were great when the same thing happened to us. Explain that you've been let down by the RSPCA and its now becoming urgent. Lots of luck Smile If they really arent interested, then I would break in.

WicksEnd · 03/05/2015 10:38

Google the house and it might come up with who the letting agent was when it was originally advertised. Maybe not much help on a Sunday though.

Cheesypop · 03/05/2015 10:39

Get a tin of Sheba (hexagonal tin) in gravy or sauce and take the lid completely off, push through letterbox. Hopefully it will land right side up and cat can eat it out of the tin. The gravy/sauce will help hydrate. One of our cats eats this and doesn't need to drink much. Sounds like you have done absolutely everything you can, so we'll done.

Cheesypop · 03/05/2015 10:40

Well*

Miltonmaid · 03/05/2015 10:40

Phone the police, non emergency number.

Pipbin · 03/05/2015 11:10

Call the non emergency number. Tell them if they don't help then you intend to break in.
