Tilt and turn windows very dangerous for cats

Beware of "tilt and turn" windows - this is the type you can tilt open from the top (see photo) - because they are extremely dangerous for cats! Cats can get stuck in the gap and it causes so much damage that it's usually lethal.

I haven't seen these windows in England - I think they're more common in Europe - but I wanted to spread the word in case anyone has them.

I heard about it through a family member whose poor cat died after getting stuck Sad

You can get a sort of long wedged shape mesh thingy that fits into the sides. Something like this

I use [[http://www.flat-cats.co.uk/ Flat Cats. Only suitable for outward opening windows though. Little Monsieur likes to hurl himself at them. Then use his claws to stick like velcro.

But yes, you're absolutely right, those tilty windows are bloody dangerous for cats.

Yes they're awful!! My poor girl got stuck in my old house and was hanging by her neck with her eyes bulging Confused It's a blinking miracle that I found her as I was just about to leave for school at the time. Thankfully she was unharmed. She was 5 at the time and is now 15. Smile

I hate those windows, my DP's parents have them at their house and they had to have a kitten put down about 10 years ago because she got stuck in one which caused massive internal injuries.

My friend's cat was injured in mine years ago and sadly died.
