Cats for those with allergies?

I've had cats my whole life but since moving out of my mums, nearly 10 years ago I seem to have developed an allergy to her cat (and others) I'm also allergic to short haired dogs.

I would love to have a cat, but I don't know if there are any breeds that are suitable for those with allergies? My mum has a black moggy.

We have a dog (who is more cat than dog, to be fair) and isn't keen on other dogs but absolutely loves cats.

Does anyone know about a breed of cat that maybe suitable for those with allergies? I have read that Korat cats are suitable for those with allergies.

Dd suffers from cat allergies. We bought a Siberian and a Bengal. If she strokes the Siberian her eyes turn red and nose starts streaming. She is ok with the Bengal. Luckily the Siberian likes to be outside so we haven't had to get rid of him.

Hi. My allergic DH "coped" with our dear old girl cat . I'd had to give her to my Mum's care because of dh allergy when we got together. Then mum had an accident (better ish now)and I took dear old girl cat back. Old girl died in March. DD very sad of course (me too)
We will be getting a rescue moggie kitten in summer but had assumed a short hair would be better for dh and his allergy.
Is long hair actually better?
