Vets/ vet nurses - thread coming from spay scar, 3 wks later

Girlkitten was spayed 3.5 weeks ago, had post op checks of which the last one was on 14th Feb so 9 days ago.

Absolutely no problems at all, wound is clean, healed etc.

The last couple of days though we have noticed what must be her stitch thread poking out of her skin, blue thread in middle of picture. No redness, soreness etc.

I am sure it is just the stitches working their way out but nobody warned us about this. Is it normal?
Previously we didn't see any stitches as they were described as being 'inside'.

Should we cut the thread of just let it work itself out? Or do we actually need to see the vet? I assume not as all is healed and well but would rather check.

Thank you

It looks like a piece of vicryl (dissolving suture) that has been expelled by the body. It does happen, but only rarely. I would pop to the vet just so they can check that the muscle layer is okay and they will probably chop it off.

Thanks lonecat.

I rang the vets and am popping her in in a few minutes.

As expected, all was fine and they just cut it off. Best to be sure though.

Glad she's fine. Smile
