What's the going rate for kitten vaccinations, neutering, microchipping etc these days?

Just picked up two most gorgeous 5mth old kittens yesterday who have had no vet treatment at all. I was after an idea of the going rate for vaccinations, microchipping, fleshing and worming please. And neutering of course, one boy, one girl.

I should point out that they will be getting it all done whatever the cost but would like to be prepared before getting into the vets!

It's a long while since I had to have some of the initial procedures carried out but the prices at vets seem to vary hugely according to their practice and location. (My own vet is an inner city practice but in a very mixed income area and they seem to be pretty cost conscious on behalf of their clients.) You can also take advantage of deals where practices have 'National Smile Month', 'National Microchip Month' etc etc - although I realize that this can't really apply to you because you need to have a full service for the two new arrivals at an early date.

From what I've seen on the practice notice boards, I'd be guessing that you would be looking at the chump end of £150-200 per kitten for the initial full works although you might find that the vet gives you credit for 'economies of scale' on eg the neutering/their own comsultancy costs. Other posters will likely comment on prices in their own areas.

It might also be worth considering a vet plan (most have a monthly deal) for the ongoing costs such as checking over, worming, fleaing, shots etc. And considering insurance as well.

Photos here ! They are remarkably chilled most of the time but also rather bonkers at other times! Confining them to one room at the moment before introducing them to oldcat but they keep escaping so we're continually rounding them up!

Yes expected it to be a few hundred pounds but we didn't pay for them as rehomed from someone who couldn't keep them, so knew we have to do everything.

I googled the cost though and it said average cost to neuter was around £50 which seemed too cheap. We wouldn't qualify for income-based reduced fees but obviously want an idea what we'll be paying. I will phone up a few local vets to ask on Monday but wanted an idea sooner if possible, hence asking here. Whilst we have used one for oldcat and dear departed other oldcat we haven't thankfully needed to see them much so don't really have a relationship.

Maybe have a look to see if any of the vets have websites to give you an idea of what they are like ? My tendency is usually to go with the vets I have any sort of relationship with (if good) but that - and cost - aren't necessarily determining factors.

I certainly think pet plans and insurance are ideas which are worth considering. It's very relieving to know that things are paid for on a regular basis and while we tend to see the problems on this board, there have been many examples over time of people who have been faced with sudden (and large) unexpected bills. Some had insurance and that at least meant that they could make decisions wthout concern about where the extra money - eg for an emergency vet - was coming from which can be a big relief when you're feeling fraught and don't need any extra complications.

We paid £50 for jabs & £60ish for neutering and microchipping.

They are beautifull. Is the tabby going to be long haired? She looks a bit floofy compared to the boy.

Girl neutering at my vets is around £70.
I'm signed up the 'healthy pet club' at my vets which is £10 a month and includes vaccination, chipping, flea and worming, health check and 15% off neutering.

Yes the tabby is rather fluffy, I think she will be long haired. They had a play fight and he ended up with her fluff all in his mouth! Took ages to get it off!

Tabby has just met oldcat by accident when she escaped from the playroom, they looked at each other through the stairgate but didn't hiss at least. Fingers crossed. She is desperate to get out of the playroom again now!

Was really happy this week to have had my kitty chipped and neutered for about £80 this week. I believe some rescue places will chip for free when you get cat neutered, but did not investigate (lazy!)

I got the one off 99 quid vaccinations for life and yearly health check at our vets. It was 50 odd quid for spaying and costs a tenner a month for flea and worm treatment for one cat.

I think the kitten package at out vet was £70 and that included, vax, worming, flea stuff, a bag of food and a 20% off voucher for neutering.

Off the top of my head the neuturing itself cost £80 before the discount.

The package included the chip too.

I had my boy neutered and chipped a couple of months ago and it was £58 for both. His vac's were £68 for both injections.

I paid about £90 for Pearl to have a full course of vaccinations, microchip, worming and flea treatment.

Her spaying was £55.

It's £80 for the vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, microchip and you get a voucher for £20 off neutering if it's done within 6 months at mine.

I paid £45 to have my male kitten neutered and chipped, don't know about vaccinations as he'd already had them.

Have you got a Pets At Home near you? That's who I use now, and I must say they were really good.

My local vets have a kitten package it was £130 for jabs, flea, worm, chop and chip. The flea and worm treatment was for the first 6 months. After that they charge £95 for life time vaccinations.

I paid 10 for microchipping , 30 for two sets of injections and 40 on Friday just past for neutering so £80 all in which is fantastic .

It was about £120 for ours, no chip.

Does anyone have any views or experience on the vets at Pets At Home?

A part of me says cheap therefore rubbish but most of me says they are as qualified as the next bet but just maybe not as experienced?

Quite good for our old girl when trying to stimulate her appetite. Recommended better food for her than the usual vet.

It's just about getting used to something new, I think.

They're qualified vets, My, and I can think of lots of reasons why they might have such competitive prices - including economies of scale in providing their own facilities and backup. I've been lucky with the local vets for my animals and had some very competent and caring individuals indeed but just because a vet has a charming local surgery and a more pricey range of treatment is not necessarily a guarantee that they're any better.

Do you have any local acquaintances that can give you views on local practices ? That might help to crystallise your thoughts if you're in doubt.

I've used pets at home vets with no problems. I'd imagine that renting store space is a lot cheaper than taking on premises of your own. The nurse said our cat was very beautiful so of course I think they're very perceptive people.

I'd ask if they use purevax for the vaccinations though.

My vet at Pets at Home has been great, and I've been there a lot recently with my 18 year old cat needing blood tests for an overactive thyroid. She isn't easy to get blood from, but he always manages without sedating her.
I also had my female kitten spayed last week, which was £64 plus £10 for microchip. I think it's £45 for a male kitten, and vaccination course is £63.

I have asked around and there are very polarised opinions about the latest cal vets in town, some love one some love another. I haven't asked directly about the pets at home one though as it is slightly further afield (about 10 miles). I will ask locally about it too.
